We just got notification that a sign of covid is a headache so if my child complains of a headache they have to be sent home because of possible coivd!!!
Really so now no one can have a headache and it not be covid.
I have now told/threaten my children that under any circumstance they are not allowed to complain of a headache or anything in school and wait till they get home . they are to suck it up till i see them
Really this is getting out of hand!!!!

its ridiculous! I wrote to NYS asking if they really told schools if a kid has a headache they have to be considered they might have covd. Not that i expect a response but really!!
its absurd!!

That is INSANE!! The world has gone effing nuts, I have MASSIVE COVID fatigue at this point, I just can't anymore.

When I had COVID my only symptoms were headache, back pain, and diarrhea. But yeah, sending a kid home with a headache and no fever or other symptoms is excessive.

Yes. I'm 39 weeks pregnant and I had some diarrhea few weeks ago. I called my Drs office and first thing they asked was if I had a fever or any other symptoms.

if they had several of the symptoms I would understand but to say if they only have one of them and they have to be assumed they have covid is crazy!!!

There was a study this week that said less than half of children with covid have a fever. Not saying they should go home for every headache but idk what they're supposed to do. My kid went to the nurse with a headache and stomach ache on day 3 and thankfully she was sent back to class. I would have felt beyond awful if she ended up actually being sick but I knew 99% chance was she was over tired and anxious.

God. Back in 2nd grade my DD complained of stomach aches every day. It was stress related and anxiety. I cannot believe I'd have to do an invasive test on her every time she complained of it.

i think they should have at least 3 symptoms before having to be considered covid

literally everything is considered covid.

Most children are asymptomatic so if your child is acting and feeling fine they probably have Covid too.

I think at this point its best to err on the side of caution.
People send their kids to school sick all the time - I think the state is doing the best they can to prevent this in this environment - if they are showing a headache and a stomach ache, why not keep them home to be safe.

Are schools requesting a child to be tested if they have any of the symptoms in the list? If that's how it is, I can’t even imagine the amount of kids that will require testing during the fall and winter!

yes some are! Its insane!!
these poor kids are gong to have to be torched with test just because it maybe covid.
This just needs to end. like Nell said this every hypochondriac dram come true. Also because of this I am sure it causing more people to become hypochondriacs!!

True. My daughter has been running around, doing gymnastics, playing, smiling, laughing, healthy as a horse. I should definitely have her tested and we should all quarantine for 14 days just in case.
Tell tale signs of Covid.

No medical professional assumes someone with only a headache has COVID. I don't think anyone is saying someone sneezes and all signs point to COVID.
Headaches aren't common in children. If a child whose never had a headache suddenly has a headache, they should be examined. That's the sticking point. Not someone who normally has allergies sneezing or the person with IBS having diarrhea. New onset, severe symptoms should be investigated.
I have no idea what DD's school does if a kid coughs. They probably kick her out permanently and send an armed guard to my house to make sure we quarantine. But I'm dealing with the opposite end of stupidity over here.
I would THINK most schools require an MD note attributing a symptom to a cause other than COVID. It is not feasible to test a child every time they have a booger.

Runny nose/congestion is also considered a symptom. With cold season starting, are they expecting anyone with the sniffles to stay at home?
I think kids should have more than 1 symptom, especially if it’s mild and they’re acting normally, before they start excluding them from school. It’s one thing to err on the side of caution, but I think acting on isolated symptoms that could be related to numerous common illnesses is over the top.

I believe my district requires 14 day quarantine or a negative COVID test if they feel you have symptoms. They are not messing around and kids will surely be sent home due to this once the weather gets colder.

My son is having severe anxiety this year and complaining of stomachaches. He went to the nurse 2x with the first hour of school one day. She called me both times and truly believed it was just anxiety but she told me that if he came back again she had to send him home and we’d have to get a test. I told my son to only go if he was really sick otherwise he’d have to have a test. He’s already had one and just the fear of getting another was enough for him to stay in class
