Has anyone gotten a root canal?
Did they put you to sleep? If so, can you recommend your dentist? TIA!!

no....
your primary dentist should be able to do it if not, he/she will recommend you to a specialist

 No they didn't put me to sleep! Just lots and lots of needles of novacaine! 
BUT...I did get to watch a Disney movie while he worked. He put that mask thing on my eyes and it helped distract me quite a bit. I think it's supposed to be for little kids.

I've had a few, and I was not put to sleep. I just had a shot of novocaine in the area and that was it. As far as I was concerned, that stupid dental dam they use to keep the saliva out was more unconfortable than anything!

I did not go to sleep. I got novacaine shots and I did not feel a thing. My dentist is Dr. Paul J. Siu he is located at 57 West 58th Street, 2nd floor, NY, NY 10019. His number is 212-838-0017.

Im the biggest wuss!!! I had them put me to sleep for extracting two wisdom teeth and I still cried like a big baby, so Im certain I need to be asleep for a root canal.

WOW, Curlygirl, you, me, and Lisa all in one week. What are the odds of this??? I had part of it done yesterday, and I am going to the specialist tomorrow for the rest of it. They did not put me to sleep for the emergency surgery yesterday, I just had 6 shots of novacaine. I am still in pain, but not as much as before I saw the dentist.
I had a tooth get infected because I had a cavity filled when I was about 12 and just before my wedding, the filling broke. I had the filling replaced and apparently the dentist did a horrible job becuase he left some of the old filling inside my tooth and it got infected.

do you think mine will hurt? It doesnt hurt now...the root died and I have an absess on my gum, which doesnt hurt either. I have never had a root canal done.

I have no idea, all I can say is that mine hurt on Sunday night so badly I could not sleep. I saw the dentist on Monday at noon and he was so concerned about it that he did part of it right then and there. It still hurt. I took one vicodan but I don't like what it did - I didn't feel in control of my body, so now I am in pain, have the the first day of my little "friend" and have to go to the speciallist tomorrow.

I don't think that they do it for root canals...at least I've never heard of it, I've had one, and I got a boatload of novacaine, but that was it....my advice is to take some ibprofen either before you go, or right after you get home-don't wait for the novacaine to wear off...

Make sure you ask for an antibiotic. I had one done last month and it got infected and they had to go back in twice I also demanded pain meds after the first time!!!
