I think we will all see if there is a spike in the next 2 weeks from all these protests.
If not, then maybe we WERE all fooled that it wasn't as bad as they made it out to be.
Yes people died and it is horrible but maybe it was safe enough for most everyone else since it has already been proven that the majority of people who contract it are NOT essential workers.

Exactly. Today is the 11th day of protests. I think if we were going to see a rise, we'd be seeing it by now. It doesn't take 14 full days to show symptoms, it can take up to 14 days. Most people would be showing symptoms around the 5th day.

I'm waiting to see if more news outlets start reporting the same, but I just saw the one news network is saying that a scientist from the WHO is reporting that asymptomatic transmission of COVID is very rare. I didn't have a chance to research it yet. Wondering how true that is.

If that's true, that is a game changer, IMO. If that is the case, temperature checks and requiring symptom free entry would be enough for everything- from offices, to restaurants, schools, amusement parks, etc.

There HAVE been lots of personal attacks on people who chose to take this seriously. It's kind of sad when people are so ugly and insecure on the inside that they have to resport to childish bullying and baseless personal attacks while ostensibly discussing public issues.

I tend to pity people who can't engage in adult conversation without whining and hissing at others or calling them names or trying to (mis)state personal facts about them. But I don't let them silence me when I have the time and inclination to speak--not in real life and not on here.

But I am afraid that too many smart, strong voices have been silenced by the attacks. ... Or maybe just not worthwhile to engage when it's like that.

ITA Chat Icon I think we all know who the bullies on the board are. They make it a point to go post on every single thread , no matter what the question is , to state how much of an overreaction it is, how they aren't concerned about anything and how they hate masks. I just have to assume that they are very unhappy with themselves and have a lot of hate in their heart. You have to feel sorry for them. Bless their hearts.

To answer the OP question, since the board masters told me I didn't, if you don't feel comfortable getting your hair done now , don't. But I would think going sooner rather than later would be "safer" in the fact that the salons will never be as clean as they are now! Thankfully I'm not old enough to have gray hair so I don't color. My cut takes all of 5 minutes, so I think I would be comfortable.

Yes, being calm and not panicking and living life with a laid back attitude and being optimistic and hating wearing a mask because it is in no way natural to breathe through fabric definitely equates to being very unhappy.
See, I would think living in fear and worry all the time and preaching doom and gloom even when things thankfully are getting better would be an unhappy way to live.
But I guess I have it all backwards.

Interesting when this was about salons OPENING, and whether the person should be first or wait two weeks. Not whether they should go at all. Nobody was being a bully and people were offering reassurance of why it may be better to be the first ones. But I guess people only read what they want to read.Chat Icon

I was agreeing with Chai77 that there have been personal attacks that show weak mindedness and insecurity. Going after people on a chat board personally instead of addressing ideas makes people look like desperate, unhappy trolls.

And everyone I have seen on here, including myself, who took the restrictions seriously appears to have a pretty good life that they value and seem to be continuing to live really good lives--and excited about resuming the beautiful lives they had until March..

Hair salons opening

I am not sure how someone asking if they should go to the hair salon right away, or wait two weeks, turned into drama.
Why is everyone so concerned with what everyone else is doing? Want to go out to a restaurant/shop at Macy's/get a haircut/and lick a stop sign, all on the same day- go for it.
Want to stay home and continue to follow lockdown because you aren't comfortable with the reopening? Go for it.
Who cares??

This. I have a great life. I have been at work every day working with the public. I'm an essential worker, I'm not privileged to work from home during the pandemic. As I said, they just have a lot of hate in their hearts...it's sad. And I went back and answered the salon question, now I quoted someone else. In case the quoting doesn't make that clear.

I am not a very frequent poster but I've been around a long time.

I came back on here around April ish to see how everyone was coping.

I found so much hysteria, hyperbole, and downright silliness.

"OMG Cuomo is the worst! He's going to take our rights away! OMG OMG! Masks do nothing! Please let the beaches open!! I need my summer!!"

Some people sounded like teenagers. It was absurd.

Then when I gently said something about perspective people stated that I (and I assume some others who agree with me) only cared about COVID deaths which was uncalled for, insulting (or would be if I cared) and, frankly, a simple minded way to interpret what I said.

I'm still laying low because frankly I want my ten year old IN SCHOOL in September because I am not happy with the "instruction" he got in the last few months. If my summer is lacking and my hair looks like a dumpster fire for the next two months I don't really care if it keeps the numbers down. That said, I won't knock anyone who is willing to venture out a little more than I am as long as they are wearing masks and otherwise following the stated rules.

Thank YOU. I could have written most of this, I, too, don't care if someone is more willing or eager than I am to get out there. But we all saw the same thing. the hyperbole was sometimes in furtherance of cruelty--targeting individual people and insufferably harassing them. Which is not how adults debate or discuss at all.

YES. You guys get it. The degrading personal attacks and bullying were unreal - and from adult women no less. I truly can not believe what I have been reading here in the past few months.

I agree I can’t believe some of the ridiculous stuff that was said. But I think some people are truly unhappy in their own lives and NEED something to complain about and seek that out. This is an easy place to do it because it’s anonymous so there’s no accountability. I just try to ignore it...

Personally, I found the smugness, privilege, and sanctimony from some who were set up well to endure a long quarantine to be far more off-putting then those who were vocally struggling with the restrictions. I found a total lack of empathy from some posters (certainly not all :) when I shared my struggles of enduring quarantine as a single parent to a seriously disabled child whose services were suddenly yanked. And I say this as someone who ordered N95 masks and biohazard suits in January and who is *still* completely following social distance guidelines - perhaps to my own psychological peril. Posters who feel victimized because you “were taking this seriously” - maybe go back and read your tone.

I made my appointment the second they opened the salon last week to take calls. I cannot wait to get this lion's mane cut! lol

I am not really worried about going, it won't be much different than going into any store has been. They eliminated the waiting room, they are limiting appointments and everyone has to wear a mask. I only need a trim so I will be in and out in no time.

In the last few weeks we've been going out more, mostly parks and take-out, but we've taken the kids into Home Depot or Target with us too. Just yesterday NJ lifted the stay-at-home orders so I am excited to start getting back to some semblance of normalcy at this point.

I probably will.
We are going out to dinner on Saturday night and plan to tip heavily as well.
I think if you are able to, it's a nice gesture.
If you can't that's fine as well- times are rough for a lot of people now

Yes I did. I been giving a little extra. I also been fortunate that DH has still been working during this time. However, many are struggling so I also think people should do what they can afford.

I’m going today and thought about tipping more as well. I know my stylists have been collecting unemployment though, but I think it would be nice throw in a little extra.

It is nice to tip more if you choose but if they were on unemployment, they were making more than when they were working.
