grocery spinoff..unpacking car at home

okay, so I am moving into an apt with stairs. Do you bring baby up first, lock the door and go down and get groceries? is it normal to leave baby solo upstairs?

Great question. I live in a second floor apartment. This is where a stroller with a big basket comes in handy. Infact, I carry the BABY, and put all my groceries in the stroller. THen I go up, put her in her swing or bouncy seat and carry the groceries up.

Re: grocery spinoff..unpacking car at home

I leave both kids strapped in the car, lock the doors, turn on the car if it's cold outside and I unload the car then I go get the kids out. If I took them out while I was taking stuff in I am afraid that Jeremy would run out by the road. I have a house so Im in and out REAL quick so they arent in the car alone for any length of time.

This is why I am such a fan of Peapod - groceries delivered right to your door! And for the handful of items they don't have, I can make a quick stop to the supermarket and carry in the one bag and the baby at the same time.

I bring them in, set Sarah up in the playroom which is totally baby proof, leave Andy in the kitchen in his car seat and then bring the stuff in and put it away.

Re: grocery spinoff..unpacking car at home

I've tried both; leaving Christopher in the car with the door locked and leaving him in a room of the house that's safe. Though both work, I'm uneasy with both. Now with two babies, I'm either going to order from Peapod, or shop on DH's days off so he can watch them while unpacking or vice versa.

One more vote for Peapod. I live in a house, but dealing with groceries with the kids is just toooooooo much!

Re: grocery spinoff..unpacking car at home

When I lived on the top floor of a house. I would either bring everything to the bottom of the stairs. Bring baby upstairs & put him in the crib, swing or whatever. Then bring up the food.

In the beginning I would put him in the crib & run like hell to the car & run right up.

ETA:Now I like to shop when hubbys home. Makes it easier on me & I get some alone time.

I live in a house... I bring DD in with the car seat and just leave her in the kitchen strapped in while I get the bags.

Re: grocery spinoff..unpacking car at home

good question....

I personally (in a house) take DD in, put her in the excersaucer or pak n play and bring ALL the bags in and then unpack them.

Maybe get to know a neighbor that can either watch your baby for the few minutes in the apt or help you cart them into the apt.

I have a LONG walk from my car to my 2nd floor co-op. I bring Jared in and put him in his crib with some juice and turn on the tv. Then I run back and forth to get the groceries.

I usually try to shop when DH is home. When he's not, I bring Nate inside, put him in his high chair or pack n play and turn on Jack's big Music Show. It's the only thing that will keep him occupied when no one is in the same room.

I shop when DH is home!

If I had to though, I would bring the baby in first, put him his crib, high chair or jumperoo while I ran back and forth. I live in a hi ranch so two short flights of stairs for me.

I shop when DH is home too.

I wouldn't leave a child in the car with the car running.

For an infant, I would bring the baby in the house, put him/her in his crib/exersaucer or leave them in their car seat & run down to get the groceries. If you have a small monitor you can bring it with you so you can be sure to hear the screams that will make you panic & move faster. Hopefully, the baby will be sleeping after a car ride.

Oh I wanted to add that the car running with no keys in the car (if you touch the brake the car will shut off and the gear shifter doesnt move without depressing the break). I don't want anyone to think I am that mother who leaves her kids in the car alone with the car running while I run into starbucksChat Icon Chat Icon
