Graduation SPINOFF...Commencement Speakers...Who was yours?
Undergrad from Marist...Mr Rogers...for me this was like a dream come true...I watched his show with my mom when I was young. At graduation he played "It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood" OMG I was in tears...it was like life came full circle.
Grad School from CW Post...Then Att General Elliot Spitzer...I liked seeing him

undergrad from Hofstra - we had Brian Dennehy and I was up close to him and I actually heard him complain about having to stick around longer than he anticipated - Tommy Boy is not the same anymore

Wendy Kopp - Founder of Teach for America. She had just started the program. She was boring as hell - so much so that the star wrestler, broke out his Game Boy and played right int he middle.

My friend had James Earl Jones , who at the end of his speech,

He was an alum of my HS!
My graduation speaker was *yawn* Chuck Schumer. Oddly enough, I went to HS with his daughter and had heard him speak before AND I knew some people who had friends at other local colleges (fordham), and he gave the EXACT same speech, and it was basically a capaign speech and had nothing to do with us. It blew.
In HS my freshman year they had Frank McCourt, he used to teach at my HS, and that was awesome. I'm pretty sure we had the Manhattan Boro Pres. or something. I don't even remember. Hilary Clinton said yes to us, but her entourage would have taken up too much of our seating!
ETA: My Fh had BONO as his graduation speaker. It was even on Best Week Ever! And I have some great close up shotrs of him in his cap and gown (they gave him an honorary degree)

Undergrad - Tom Wolfe - he sounded drunk
Grad - Christiane Amanpour and Ray Kelly - it was the first graduation after 9/11 and right in Washington Square Park so it was very emotional and powerful. Also, Neil Diamond performed. We had a sunny day and it was awesome, definitely worth attending.

Undergrad: Hofstra Business May 1997 was the CEO of KLM airlines. No idea what his name was. That year the Libral Arts school had Billy Joel.
Grad: NYU SCPS Dec 2001 No idea.
DH's undergrad speaker was Bill Cosby, but his son had been murdered right before that and DH said it was a very strange speech.

I went to my school one, not the overall NYU one. Wish I'd gone to this one instead.

Molloy College: Father Tom Hartman..(The God Squad).he has Parkinson's Disease and it was starting to affect his speech...he was just so inspiring...not a dry eye in that place
