Going grocery shopping with your newborn/infant
DS is 2 months old. The few times we've gone grocery shopping, I put the car seat in the big part of the shopping cart. It takes up almost the entire cart. There's no way I could do this and pick up a bunch of things from the store. I don't want to put the seat on the top part of the cart b/c I've read that it's unsafe. I'm also hesitant to use a carrier like the Baby Bjorn b/c I don't want to wake him up when I transfer him from the car seat to the carrier.
Where do you put your newborn/infant when you go grocery shopping?

in the stroller.......
and then i use peapod for all the really heavy things like cases of water landry detergent paper towels etc
i love it and it works for us

I used to do it on the top but I pretty much held it in place the entire time I shopped. Some markets have the car seat tops that you could put him in - but I doubt they're very clean.

I don't I either use peapod or wait until the weekend when DH and can stay home and I can go. Much easier that way

We do our shopping on the weekend and either DH and I will go shopping and one will stay home with the baby. It is just so much easier this way. Other times, we have gone together and I follow DH with the baby in the snap n go.

If I have to just grab a few things I'll put him in the snap and go and use a basket. I go to BJ's for big shopping so I try to leave him with someone when I do that. I brought him once and had him in the Bjorn, but hit him in the head a few times when I went to reach for things so I don't plan on doing that again And I have put his carrier in the top part of the cart and just make sure I stay by it. But I generally try to go grocery shopping alone!!

This is what I used to do and I always made sure I was right next to the the cart.
Same here. I'll use the little seat belt strap and loop it through the back of the car seat as well.
Plus I'm right there and basically holding on to it.

DH and i have had to go together for all big shopping trips since DS was born. it's a huge pain since we can't go until we are both home from work (and DH is on a rotating schedule so that is rare) and i won't go if it is close to DS's bedtime.
so last night we were trying to schedule a time to FINALLY go shopping and he caved in and told me to use peapod

it depends on the store. Walbaums, the car seats dont fit properly on the top so if I am doing a big shopping order and I have to take DD with me then I got to Pathmark bc I know it will fit in the cart properly, it actually snaps in.
Most of the time, I leave her home with Dh

Agreed, I always put him on top and while moving kept my hand on teh carrier to make sure it didnt move. Some carts the seat fits in better than others.

Same here. Although I didn't bring DD too many times before she could sit up in the cart herself.

I did this with both kids. I had to when I had #2 because were else would the baby go. I just really held on to the seat while I moved. Otherwise, there would be no roon for food that seat takes up the entire back.

Same here - car seat on the top part and I held it the entire time. I was lucky that at the market near my house, the car seat would snap into the bars on the top so it was secure.

I put him in the big part of the cart once while on Maternity leave and went in for 'a couple of things'. A couple of things turned into a whole shopping trip. I had food stuffed all around his seat in every crevice. It was ridiculous!
DH now comes with me to food shop. One person wheels the stroller, one person does the cart.

I either went at night and left DS home with DH or I used the Baby Bjorn. DS and I both loved the Bjorn.

I usually go at night when DH is home. If I have to go with DD I put her car seat on the top of the cart, which succks bc I can barely see over the top. (I'm 5'1).

on top i make sure the red button on the back is hooked on which leaves him slightly tilted but he doesnt mind.
