This statement is way way worse:

"Some people (in the US) think they don't have to breastfeed, and I think, 'Are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?'"

I barely knew who she was now, that I read the article I can hate her too!

She's clearly just an idiot.

I wasn't going to read it but I did....how can she say that natural child birth did not hurt in the slightest....I gave birth to my son naturally with no meds and while it was a great experience I did feel pain..unless you are a robot or are smoking pot or something while giving birth then its going to hurt...maybe she is a stonerChat Icon

I'm glad we ALL think she's a moron. . .BFing and FFing mommies!!

this article struck a nerve with me & I know I shouldn't care but it brought back my guilt of completely failing at BFing and giving up.

I'd hope she has another kid, and when the child is born, has no milk come in...even though she desperately wants to breastfeed, even though she tries to feed her child every three hours, has each feeding session last for over an hour, and pumps in between. For THREE weeks. And then has to feel the devastating guilt of not being able to breastfeed her child.

THEN, I'll listen to her opinions on breastfeeding.

I don't know why some people are getting all upset about this. Who cares what she has to say? Chat Icon

The reason I get upset about it is because I desperately wanted to BF....and I had no milk, so after three weeks of trying, I had to give up....and I felt like a huge failure.
It was literally one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through emotionally, and it's still (3 years later) raw and make me cry.
So when someone suggests that there is something wrong with women who do not breastfeed and they should be punished for it.....it makes me want to break their face. Because some things are out of your control. Some things, no matter how hard you try, how much you prepare, are not meant to be....and sometimes, it breaks your heart.

Another one who thinks her word matters. These celebrities kill me with their political stances and now telling women how they should care for their child.

And i BFed for 19 months, I was lucky to not have any issues that wouldnt make that possible. If i tried BFing and it didnt work and some woman said this to me I would be so angry and hurt

Screw her

whatever... I soooo don't let people get to me about breastfeeding...

I have no ill feelings and don't feel the need to make any apologies either...

she should shut up and mind her own business.

I feel the exact same way because I had an almost identical experience. It absolutely strikes a raw nerve with me!

that is so wrong of her to say

I EBF my son and did in the past with my other two and I truly feel it's one of the most important things i'll ever do in my life....if I could NOT, i'd be devestated. If she thought about how much emotion she feels FOR breastfeeding, and imagined how she'd feel if she couldn't - I think she would think differently. There are so many reasons it doesn't work for some, and it's so wrong of her to think that it's easy for everyone.

If putting this in law, would give women 6 months maternity leave guaranteed, have unlimited support from LCs and free hospital grade pumps, pumping bras, and all the access to all the things that Ms. Bundchen does, then I might consider it could be a law. "MIGHT"

ITA....while BF is great for those who can do it. I've just never been able to supply my DD's with enough milk and had to do formula. Also with 2 under 13 months it's a little tough to feed much less pump also.

what she said is silly.

but on a completely different note, I have a VERY hard time believing her kid is EBF. Is she really pumping bottles before the gym? before going out? Is she EBFing in public? I think we would have seen a pic. Her kid is getting this "american Chemical"

A worldwide law? She is an effing idiot.

That is infuriating to me. I LOVED formula feeding my babies. It was absolutely the right choice for me and them. I would have been miserable breastfeeding and i have zero guilt over it.

It's a shame that any mom needs to feel guilt over not doing so. And I HATE when people say it should be mandatory for 6 months. Then what? It's ok to suddenly put them on "Chemicals" that were bad for the first 6 months?

I just don't get it. What a dumb celebrity.

Re: Gisele Bundchen says it should be a "worldwide law" that women MUST breastfeed their chlildren for 6 months.

Chat Icon Because I don't get a few comments......the 6 months paid maternity leave? Why would you need that to bf for 6months? I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice but I pumped and worked just fine and that was working 24hr shifts, working as a road paramedic and pumping when I could in an ambulance, hospital, station, whatever. Also the comment about getting your boobs "plumped"????? I'm sorry and I know this is flame material, but why would that be a consideration? That's like saying you would rather have a c-section then a vag. birth just in case it never goes back? Maybe I am reading the comment wrong, and I could be it was a long night, but it just struck me as odd.

I would like to add I am for bfing, but that's me and I was lucky it worked out for me in the end. My heart breaks for mom's who WANT to do it and can't because of milk issues, or medical issues. No it isn't easy and I had a helll of a time. I ep for 8wks every 3hrs around the clock before DD would latch so I get it..it can s*ck at times. My point is cosmetics and maternity leave, IMHO, should not play a role in it.

****DISCLAIMER******

This is a PERSONAL feeling and not to be taken as offensive. If I did offend you I truly am sorry and apologize.

I think the things you are quoting in your post were just meant as a ::roll your eye:: type comment b/c Gisele thinks this should be a L A W! So they're saying if this should be a LAW (in her mind) to BF for 6 months then I'd want 6 months leave, I'd want the state to pay for my pump, my supplies. . .etc. . .I don't think any of those comments were actually true Chat Icon but were just stating if Gisele thinks this should be a LAW then there should be some help to back this "law" up. (for example if your baby should not latch and this became a law then the state should be paying for my pump since they are saying I HAVE to give my baby breast milk, kwim?)

(it'll never be a law, obviously so this is kind of just a pointless thing to even go in circles about)

How is pumping and using a bottle not part of EBF?

While her wording sucks I agree that too many Americans turn to formula instead of breast feeding because they can't be bothered BF and that is just unfair to children.

I understand some people can't BF because milk doesn't come in or they are on meds, etc and I feel for them and their disappointment.
But I don't understand women who never give it a chance and start on formula from day one.

One person said who is to say breastmilk is better than formula. Really?
How about every health organization in the world!
There is a reason formula can't advertise its self as better than mother's milk or as good as mother's milk

I was just thinking the same thing, if her child was truly EBF he would either be with her at all times or she would be a slave to the pump.Chat Icon

You must be a super model too.

I think what Janice is saying is that she doesn't believe this woman is really pumping before the gym, etc and that since we never see pictures of her breastfeeding in public she is probably supplementing.

As for you not understanding why a woman "can't be bothered" to breast feed her child or doesn't give breast feeding a chance and that it's unfair to the child. I say this: Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

There is so much you can't understand simply because you do not walk in another person's life. That's okay. But don't tell me it's unfair to my child. That is just silly. And it's unfair to children to have such silly parentsChat Icon Chat Icon

I wanted to add though, I do think some sort of an extra health lesson should be taught for a day or 2 in HS on the subject.

I never had any idea that BFing reduces cancer risks.

Also, I think that if you are counting on WIC, you should also have to attend a BFing education class. I know TONS of people getting free formula who never considered bfing.
