girls who've delivered/delivering at Winthrop

Just went to the orientation. I was alittle upset to hear that my husband could not stay overnight with me. I'm a nervous person and have heart issues and would feel more comfortable with him there.... I was wondering how strict theyd be

My sister delivered there last year and they didn't let her husband stay with her at all. She was pretty bummed.

Re: girls who've delivered/delivering at Winthrop

Is this pretty standard at most hospitals? Or, is it weird that Winthrop has this as a policy?

honestly, i'm glad DH didn't stay. he got some good rest at home and was able to bring things back with him and bring me different stuff. they let them come earlier than regular visitors too.

I had a private room and my husband was not allowed to stay. They did let him stick around a bit later then the standard time he was supposed to leave but that was it. I wasn't planning on having him stay, so I didn't push the issue. However, the nurse mentioned to me that it was for security reasons.

my sisters have 6 kids amongst them...delivered all at Winthrop...always had a private room and their DH was NEVER allowed to stay.
Personally I wouldn't want mine to stay...would want both him and me to be able to get a good night's sleep...but to each their own.

With DD #1, I sent mine home........didnt want him there!
HA!

This time around he will have no choice to get home and be with our DD.

Its not a big deal, since they can come right back 1st thing in am and be there all day.

Normally I would be fine, but now that the pregnancy has made my heart condition worse, I'm just scared to really ever be alone- especially at night.

I'm delivering at St. Charles and they also have a no stay-over policy. But it's fine with us, b/c we'd rather he go home and get some rest. No sense in both of us being out of it.

I'm not too bummed about it. I want DH to be able to have a good night's rest and come back and see us refreshed. I'll feel safe there...winthrop is a great hospital and my parents and inlaws both only live 5 mins away so if I need anything I can give them a quick call!

ITA! Loved Winthrop but HATED sharing a room the first night but they were booked.
Honestly, I didnt want my DH or wouldnt want anyone elses DH or family there while sharing a room. If you go private I think it is allowed. They let my friends DH stay.

Re: girls who've delivered/delivering at Winthrop

I haven't gone for my tour yet, but I did see that policy in my informational packet that came with my registration forms.

At first I was really put off by this, but on the other hand as many of the other girls have stated, he will be able to go home and rest rather than being uncomfortable in the hospital, plus he can bring you back stuff from home on his way back to see you!! :)

They didn't let DH stay overnight when I delivered there in March but they also didn't kick him out right at 10pm...he usually stayed until 11-11:30ish.

Maybe my nurse was incorrect who knows. I would just ask beforehand. I would hate to see someone pay all the money for a private room if the only reason is for their DH to stay and he is not allowed to.

Back in 2007 DH stayed with me overnight while I was in labor one night, but not after delivery.

I delivered there in 2006 and 2007, had a private room both times and DH wasn't aloud to stay. It might have changed since then.
I was really nervous to be alone there but it wasn't that bad. He stayed until 10/10:30 and the nights went fast. Not to mention if you have them bring the baby to you durning the night you get occupied with that.
