Gift for a party you cannot attend

If your DC is invited to a classmate's party and you can't make it, would you buy them a gift anyway?

Would your answer change if this classmate came to your DC's party and bought what you consider a nice gift?

Yes. I might not spend as much as I normally would if I attended, but I would definitely get a gift.

Re: Gift for a party you cannot attend

I've never received a gift from a schoolmate who could not attend one of my kids' parties. I've also never given one either. Except the 2x where my DD was supposed to attend and was sick. In that case I gave the gift anyway.

I definitely don't think it's necessary or expected.

Yes! I have received gifts from classmates that couldn't make it and we have done the same when we couldn't attend. Especially if you really liked the gift they gave!!Chat Icon
