getting anxious (kind-of off topic-but not really)

OK this is half on topic, half off topic. I am starting to get anxious and I cant talk to DH about it because I know he is anxious and I have to be the calm one.

First we are doing this IVF thing so I am very excited and the normal (I think) amount of anxiety comes along with that.

But the other thing is that my DH has only worked for one company his entire life. He has been there 13 years and it is the kind of job that isnt going anywhere, has less security the longer he is there (since he makes more money), and has no pension. He applied for a job with the DEP that has awesome long term benefits but a huge pay cut. We have been hoping they wouldnt call until he got his holiday bonus. Well, he got his bonus today and a call from DEP today. In my heart I know this is the best thing for our future (especially since he hates his job). I had to convince him we could manage on the pay cut, but just between us it will be tough!! We can do it, but it will be hard and with maybe more kids coming even harder.

In addition, if this IVF doesnt work and I really hope it does I am afraid that our new policy will consider it a pre-existing condition. Does anyone who works in insurance know if they can do that. I know they can when you are applying on your own for a policy, but what about if it is a company offered policy during a new enrollment period. A good answer to that question would definately quell some of that anxiety.

OK everyone, thanks for listening. Sorry this was so long.

Pauline I don't know anything about the insurance...mine only pays MAX 3K anyway so it's practically not even an issue with us.

I amsure by adjusting your spending you will be OK, and in the long run if your DH is happier in his job, you will all be happier. I wish you tons of luck and baby dust and lots of hugs.

It's always a hard decision to give up $ but think of the end result... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Pauline, since your dh is looking to get a city job...will he be getting the GHI/city worker insurance ???

I don't know much about insurance, but, from my experience, with some of the people I worked with, they never had trouble with GHI...and pre existing conditions. GHI/city worker, is a pretty good plan...and has excellent infertility insurance. I may be wrong but I don't even remember filling out any paperwork on health issues.

I dont know which plans he will be offered but I am told there are several to choose from. I was looking forward to the GHI for that reason but my pediatrician no longer takes GHI and I really dont want to have to switch that MD so I might have to pick another plan.

Whatever you do, stick with a PPO plan. Infertility and HMO's don't work well together. They usually involve referrals, and it can be a nuisance.

At my company with our health insurance, as long as a person can show no lapse in coverage, we cover the existing condition (pregnancy included).
