Gel Manicure- Review (w/pic of nails) Updated with 2wks wear picture.

After a thread on getting manicures and the polish chipping within two days...this was me.

The gel mani that a few girls posted had me curious so I went for a mani today and inquired about this.

They just got it in, and said ok, lets try it.
I was their 1st real client to get it.
OPI product. 8 colors is what they offer.

You get a regular mani, then there is a mini process.

A spray, a bonder polish, then a base, sit under UV light, then color applied 2/3 times under UV light each time, then top coat that finishes it off.
You are dry and shiny.
Process took about an hr.

I got the strawberry margharita color today.

I dont love the color at all. Its very sheer on and not very appealing on my nails/skin tone.
After 3 coats, still you can see my nails.
It seemed a lot darker on the box.

The concept, yes...to protect your nails and not have chipping/peeling and then you go back in two wks for a soak and change of color.

I will wait the two wks out even though I hate the color, lol

but my nail girl asked if I could do that and see how it works out and would change color free of charge if I wanted.

Cost $35

Salon- SB One Nail in Seaford

HTH for anyone interested.

ETA: A site about the product also with another pic of nails...and color

Yes, absolutely.

Its like nail polish so its not adding or extending your nails.

Here are colors they offer.

Re: Gel Manicure- Review (w/pic of nails)

Oh ok.
Yeah I see it's mostly pastels.
I see a few darker shades in there.

Might be worth a shot!

I think the color is nice on you!

I used to do the French like that, i loved it, but HATED when it was time to change the color. It was worth it though because you couls last two full weeks, sometimes even push it to 3!

The soaking isn't too bad. By the time I need a new manicure, it's time for a pedicure, so they soak when I am getting the pedicure.

It cost $20 where I go.

I think what I got was something different then by me.

I am going to see if I can find a place that does that by me.

Where did you go because I might come to the island next week or the following.

Re: Gel Manicure- Review (w/pic of nails)

I tried three colors so far, Big Apple Red (a true red), Cajun Shrimp (coral red) and now Moonlight (white).

The only one that was sheer is the white.

It sounds similar to a UV gel manicure.

I also pay $20, and choose any color I want from the shelves, not necessarily the gel colors.

Danielle, we might go to the same place--it's in the Gardiners Ave shopping center near the post office?

Re: Gel Manicure- Review (w/pic of nails)

I also did a gel type manicure this week - it's made my Mani-Q, and also was $35. BUT mine was clear - the polish goes over it so you can change it and I think they just fill it in? (I'll let you know about that in a few weeks!)

I think that might be King of Queens, or something like that.

I go to Fashion Nails which is on Wantagh Ave.

Re: Gel Manicure- Review (w/pic of nails)

blackberry pic so not the best- I got moon over mubuai

I admitt I was stumped over the colors- nothing was grabbing me for a summer color- but I am very happy with this

and the no drying and price seals the deal- if they last 2 weeks like that said the amount of time I am saving makes up for the difference in price on 2 mani's that chip after a few days!

Wantagh Ave isn't that far for me (about 15 minutes) but of course I would love to find something five minutes away.
