Frozen Wedding Cake...

Has anyone done this, and actually eaten it? Does it taste exactly how you remembered it?Also, how did you defreeze?

Our 1st anniversary is rapidly approaching (9/18), and I don't know what to do to get it unfrozen. Someone said to just let it sit out a couple of days before the anniversary... but I don't know how many.

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

We did. Ours tasted really good. It was a tiny bit dry, but definitely edible. We actually finished the slice of cake!
ETA we took it out the morning of our anniversary & had it at about 10pm that night (the same time we did the cake cutting at our reception).

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

We took ours out of the freezer into the fridge about 2-3 days before. We actually had gone out to dinner with my family so we came home and all had a slice for dessert. And it was awesome! I was very surprised.

We took ours out that morning and ate it at about 11 that night. It was really good! I agree it was a little dry but otherwise delicious!
Enjoy!!!

We put ours in the fridge the night before. It was dry, but the fondant and the filling still tasted good. We each had a few bites and then got rid of it.

Here's a pic of the top of my cake (surrounded by tinfoil) from when we unwrapped it!

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

I haven't eaten mine yet - I have another 2 months. But I have been wondering the same thing. I think I am going to go back to the balery that made mine and ask if they can make me another top to my cake.

Did it freeze crooked, or was that the style?

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

We ate our cake on our first month anniversary.

Every couple I've ever known said the cake was yucky a year later and it takes up so much needed room in the freezer. During the school year I cook all of the meals for the week on Sunday and freeze them... I really need the room.

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

How horrible is that that we have our top layer and I DO NOT want to eat it on my 1 year anniversary!!! It tasted bad last year why would I want to eat it again... a year later Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am thinking of having a mini replica of how it looked ( really easy cuz it was plain) and have a REAL baker do it so the inside tastes the way it was supposed to!

LOL...I guess it does look crooked in the picture. The part that looks crooked is the "ribbon" that was going around the cake. This is what the cake looked like originally:

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

We threw our top layer out 2 days after the wedding ..

(1) I hated the taste of our cake the day of the wedding and (2) it had all the fresh flowers on it, we were at a hotel the wedding night and didn't refigerate it.. it just looks SO NASTY I flung it in the trash Chat Icon

Thanks! I didn't realize how weird that layer looked if you didn't know what the whole cake looked like! Chat Icon

I'm going to take a pic of the cake before we eat it. We had fresh flowers, too, but they stayed fresh, in a frozen state. Looks cute.

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

We tried this on our first anniversary.. My parents took the cake home that night and it stayed in their freezer the entire year. the day before our 1 year anniversary I asked my mom to take the cake out and defrost it that way we could pick it up and eat it the next day. Well our anniversary came, and that night we go to open the cake to have some and we notice that its like HOT PINK icing.. apparently my mother had saved some carvel cake that year sometime and thought that was our cake all along.. ended up that we tasted it a few days later and it was still good...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We froze it and ate in on our 1st anniversary. My mom had a dinner for us and a few people did try it. I admit I took a bite, it was ok. Dh and most of the relatives really liked it.

Re: Frozen Wedding Cake...

Ours sat in my parents freezer since Dh and I moved to Florida right after the wedding and made some stops along the way (sept02) then that Christmas we drove up and grabbed it and put it on dry ice and drove back to Florida (dec02)and placed it in our freezer until we moved to Texas and drove with it again (aug03) until it was placed in our freezer. We placed it in our fridge on Sept 26, 2003 and ate it the morning of Sept 27, 2003 (our 1 year) before leaving for the weekend!

It was suprisingly delicious!
