we bought 2 houses in the passed 5 years

our first house, right before we got married was a small, 2 bedroom 1 bath ranch for $265,00 we had to do a TON of work to it!

then, in 2007 my inlaws had to move so we decided to buy therir house from them.. its a 4 bedroom, 2 bath house and we paid $363,000. that was with a "discount" from in laws.. its probably worth closer to $400,000

these were both in NJ

We bought in 2000, so I am out of your range, but we paid less than $300K and we have a 4-bedroom, 3-full bath hi-ranch. ETA: eastern North Shore Nassau County

Well, not officially "bought" yet - but

3BR townhome, 2 1/2 bath, $235k (in Northern VA). - April 2009

In 2006 this same place sold for $400k Chat Icon

I agree. Chat Icon We're in the $320-375 option, and are closing next week. 3 bed, 2 full bath in north shore suffolk.

We definitely would have stayed in NY...but when we were looking to buy was at the height of the real estate bubble and there was NO way we could afford anything.

Honestly, now that the prices are lower we probably COULD afford to buy on LI, but we probably wouldn't get a loan now because of the crazy requirements and huge down payment that you need. Chat Icon
