Food Network to drop Paula Deen

They're dropping her like they've got butter fingers!

Well, that's what you get when you say that you'd like the black servers at a wedding to dress in slave attire.

Peace out, slob!

ETA: google the deposition...the above posted link apparently doesn't delve into her disgusting ways and ideas.

Re: Food Network to drop Paula Deen

I am sad she was fired. I always enjoyed her shows. I don't think she is a nasty person. Maybe a little ignorant. She is southern bred and it's a different ballgame down South. I spend a lot of time in S. Carolina as DH Parents have a home there. One time DH and I were on a pier and we asked this black man how many fish he caught and he was very meek and afraid to speak to us. It's seriously sad. But anyways, the point is she made jokes. In poor taste. But how many comedians make racist jokes and they get away with it? I don't think she is a hateful person. She has had black people on her show before that are her good friends. One of my good friends who is black posted this on his Facebook which ultimately shocked me coming from him but he does kind of have a point!

I'm a little confused about the whole Paula Deen situation. I know we are supposedly in a post segregation era and racial supposedly racist free society according to the powers that be. I have no idea why this day in age they persecute people for using the "N" word I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but the word is as American as apple pie and its not going anywhere. Also this is the same word that has afforded all these hip-hop moguls and rappers to afford the luxurious life they live. The Hip-Hop industry is a multi-billion dollar industry built off that that word so you tell me who's hypocrite and we all know who controls the industry........

WHAT?

Personally I think that when black people use the N they sound ignorant and I tell my students that and encourage them not to but when any white person uses it there is hate involved.

I don't really give a flying fuckk that she is from the south and this is what they do down there, she is a representation of one of the biggest American television networks in the world and if this is how she talks, thinks and behaves she has no business being on the Food Network.

There is no place in todays world for a public figure to speak like that.

I don't want to hear it and I don't want my son to hear it, it is disgusting that people still think and talk this way.

She wouldn't let her black employees at a restaurant use the same restroom as the customers, but it was okay for the white employees to do so.

So, its not persecution for using that word.

Its persecution for not giving equal rights to all employees and for doing nothing while an employee was verbally and physically assaulted on premesis.
That IS being a nasty person. That is NOT "a little ignorant", that is a mothereffing BOATLOAD of ignorance.

It has nothing to do with comedians or artists.

MrsMick, your response is so ignorant and has underlying racist tones..,,"racist free society, according to the powers that be!?!?!?!!" And "the "N" word is as American as Apple Pie...I am seriously shocked and somewhat afraid that is 2013 someone would say or think that! No wonder you thought that black man on the pier was afraid and meek...maybe he just did not want to talk to YOU!!!

I get what the posted was saying, from the article it seemed that she may have thrown the N word around. Which nowadays people have very different opinions about.

Now that you add those details it changes it completely but none of what you wrote was posted in that link.

ETA: Just to clarify, when I read article in the original link - I didn't see her as a down right racist. However, adding the facts above makes her seem like a horrible person and racist.

this is how I took it when I read the article. People grow up differently. My family is very politically incorrect, well maybe we are just nuts. But Im Puerto Rican and ive used the word Spic as well as the N-word. I used it as slang for homie. Its the neighborhood in which I grew up. Do I used it everyday, no. I do try to refrain from saying. To me its also like the word "retard". I grew up saying it like someone was stupid. We were ignorant of the meaning and the word. When I got older and was brought awareness, I realized how offensive it can be. And don't say it or yell at my DH when he uses it.

I *think* MrsMick's second para was a copy-and-paste from her friend's facebook (I am basing this off the last sentence of her first para)...

Also I read a NYT article that said that her sons' shows wouldn't be impacted by this.

I've seen MrsMick make comments like this before, and she tries to always include politics into her posts. Snooze. You're a republican and you seem to hate everyone else.

I think FN did the right thing by not continuing to condone or endorse her behavior. And not for nothing, she is not a reliable or credible role model. So it serves her right to suffer the consequences for her actions.

Yes, that link was from the breaking news yesterday afternoon. I would edit the post to add the links to the deposition (may be links within the article in my OP, not sure) but I'm on my phone and have trouble at times posting links. I recommend that people google for the deposition, it really is quite a read!
