first official post on the parenting board! and BF question, please help!
 Eryk is now officially 1 week old... which means it's been 9 days since I've last   
we're sooo happy!!!! I'm also thrilled to join all of you on this board  as a first time parent I'm sure I'll learn tons from you... so thanks in advance 
so here's my first query on this board!
BF. he latches on great... he empties my boobs after about 25 min per side... he pees and poops well, his latch is good... I'm blessed right? NOPE! he WON'T STOP FEEDING.
I literally BF'ed this morning for 4 hours continually  (1/2 hour on left, 1/2 hour right, returned to left, returned to right..... blah blah....) Never stopped, never slept, never full!
If I BF for an hour (one round on each side), he will require 4 oz of formula within 5 min of finishing. he literally wails for the food. originally we thought it was gas, indigestion... 'cause he COULDN'T be hungry after JUST eating right? nope. he IS. those fits don't stop until he's either back on the boob or on the bottle. This is a huge amount of food for a 7 day old, and every day he requires even MORE.
I don't know what to do  I can't BF 24/7 LITERALLY! I have a good supply, obviously, since my boob refills within 30 min for round #2, but I need sleep, and frankly, I need to shower and pee once and a while....
anyone know what's wrong with this scenario? I've called the SBU's BF hotline... but I had to leave a message and they haven't gotten back to me yet 
oh, so here's a picture of our cute little eating maching.... ok, back to feeding!

hi and congrats! I have the same issue, DS eats so much I am pumping and giving him formula bc I am not producing enought for his appetite.

I most likely would say he's not "feeding" all those times. He may just be sucking...using you as a paci.

Have you spoken to his ped? How is his weight gain? IMO, it may be more of the sucking reflex he is looking for instead of food. Do you use a paci?

sometimes he is just 'sucking' becuase he gets sleepy at the boob, but in the end, I wake him enough to at least eat enough that he makes my boob very light and obviously 'emptied'.
I don't know how to make him more 'focused' though. and even with a bottle of formula, he's eating way more than I suspect he should. 4 oz??? after BF'ing?
you do you keep your baby focused on sucking?

his weight gain is good. he didn't lose much in the hospital at all (maybe 4 oz), and he regained 2-3 oz in the first 4 days home....

You could tickle his feet while feeding him, that might keep him alert.
But I would try a paci, see how that goes.

OK, paci it is... tickling feet will be my back-up (I already tickle his head and neck)
I'm happy to report that he finally went to sleep just now.... so I will now follow.

watch his jaw when he is eating if it is long draws he is eating if it is short sucks then you are a human paci.
