First Mommy Post

Hello Ladies,
I am crossing over to this side now. I gave birth to Isabella Grace on Friday night and I already have my first question...

When will I be able to sleep and not worry if she is breathing or not? So far Isabella sleeps all night, I wake her for feedings. I know when she sleeps I should but I basically stare at her to make sure she is okay. I even keep my hand on her at times to see she is breathing.
When will this get better?

Re: First Mommy Post

Welcome to mommy-hood! The worrying starts now and just keeps on going.

We have an Angelcare monitor (there are plenty of posts about it that you can search through) but basically it senses the motion of the babys breathing and makes a "tick" sound with every breath sensed. if God forbid the baby stops breathing (or no motion is detected), an alarm sounds.

We find the ticking to be very comforting and when I wake up I just listen for that sound and know he's OK.

Re: First Mommy Post

Congratulations!!

The honest answer? Never. But it does get better.

DS is 4.5 months and I still check the monitor during the night to make sure he's breathing if I haven't heard him for a while.

But it's much better than it was when he first got home.

Welcome to this board and congrats!

I'm sure you can remember when you were pregnant (not that long ago) that you never stop worrying - even after you heard the heartbeat, even after your Level II. Unfortunately the worry never really stops but it gets better - at least I found it did for me. I still wake sometimes to go in and check on them - or I think I heard a funny noise on the monitor so I run in there. It's normal to worry - officially makes you a mommy! Chat Icon

It definitely gets better. I would also keep my hand on DD to make sure she was breathing. I've gotten more relaxed now -- I still do it, just not as frequently. Do what makes you feel comfortable for now! Chat Icon

Re: First Mommy Post

Congrats!!! I'm glad to see you over here. Chat Icon I still worry about DD breathing. And I worry about everything else. Chat Icon Today I was driving and heard her coughing in her sleep, but couldn't see her so I was afraid she choked when she stopped coughing. I'm crazy.

Re: First Mommy Post

Congratulations and welcome!

As the other mommies have said, the worrying never ends... it gets better, yes, but then a new set of worries kick in as they get older.. and I'm sure it will continue that way into adolescence and adulthood Chat Icon

That said... you are a normal new mommie and I think we all go through this those first few weeks! I still worry about DS when he's sleeping at night, and he'll be a year old soon.. it just becomes the new 'normal' to worry when you have children I think Chat Icon

Hang in there!Chat Icon

Re: First Mommy Post

Welcome Mommy! DD is 9 weeks and I still check her constantly throughout the night to make sure she's breathing. I also do this when she's napping during the day.

You are completely normal and just like the rest of us Chat Icon

Congrats on becoming a mommy. I know how you feel. I was constantly racing to the crib to see if Jared was breathing or not. Don't worry, it gets better.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Congrats and welcome to mommyhood!

You will most likely never stop doing that, it'll just become a little less frequent. I still sneak into Ava's room some nights and check herChat Icon

Welcome and Congratulatoins.
My honest answer is..The worrying will never end, but, it does get better.

DS is 8 months old and has been in his crib since 4 months. I STILL check on him about 3 times before I can fall asleep. I have the monitor right next me on my night table. If he sleeps past 7AM, I usually go in (If I don't hear him "talking") on the monitor and check him.

Re: First Mommy Post

hmmm....thats s tough one. With my first child, i was anal, and would check on her until my second one was born (7 years later). DS is now 8 weeks and i am not as nervous wiht him as i was with DD. If i am awake i look at him, but i dont wake myself up to check on either of them anymore

It gets better but it may take a while. I did the same thing. Chat Icon Definitely try to get some rest. For me it was easier to at least nap during daylight then sleep at night.
