First Christmas without Dad

I am new to this specific group. I just wanted to introduce myself. I am looking for some support after the loss of my father. He passed away Dec 7th, very unexpectedly. He was a healthy man with no medical history. Which makes this situation even harder to grasp. Christmas was his favorite time of year and the fact that he is not here to spend it with us is really affecting the entire family.

We have all been strong thus far, but are finding things more difficult today. I still cant believe he isnt here anymore.

I dont really know what else to say right now, but had to get some emotion out. I've never been part of this sort of group, so I dont know how to address things.

I hope despite all the pain this holiday season, that you can all still find some joy.

Re: First Christmas without Dad

I'm so sorry for your loss, your not alone in this I lost both of my parents (My Dad 11 years & My Mom 3 years ago this coming Feb.) I know how you are feeling for me the holidays are not the same, but I try very hard to make the best of it. You said that Christmas was your Dads favorite time of the year, one thing that you and your family can do
is to celebrate your Dads life. Remember all of the good times with him. In away he is still with you, you carry him in your heart. If you ever need to talk FM me anytime.

I know that it does help me by remembering all of the good times we had as a family, thats something that I carry with me.

By coming here you made a Great start!!!

this was my 4th christmas without my father, who also died suddenly with no major health problems. all you can do is make the best of it, remember all the good times with him and push on. it unfortunately never gets easier, you just learn how to deal and get by. he will be there to help you through!Chat Icon

Re: First Christmas without Dad

i lost my father november 12th. he too was a very active man....tennis, golf, beach...everyday was something new since he retired 6 years ago. it came without notice. he went for a routine prostate exam, got an infection, and refused to go to the doctor. 3 weeks later his body gave out. none of us even knew he was under the weather.

i was in the angry stage for quite some time. mad that he left...mad that he didn't think of us...mad i couldn't say goodbye. thanksgiving was the best it could be and for the first time my mom celebrated xmas with my in laws (we're jewish).

friends say they understand. i know they are trying, but it's hard to express why you're sad in the middle of a good time. it's the little reminders of him, at random times that make me break down.

you are not alone. i know exactly how you feel. time should take the sting out and i look forward to being able to share his stories without crying. he would have wanted us to keep on truckin!

PM me anytime!
XOXO
