FiOS - Verizon anyone have it? love it? hate it?
Trying to decide if i should switch over to FiOS TV, Internet, Phone.
Any comments?

I have FIOs for TV, Internet and Phone. The service is good, but the HD DVR that you can get from them is unreliable. Tivo is so much better.

We tried to switch last weekend. They came door to door in our area because they just installedthe fiber optic cables. We signed up, and they said they would call Monday to set up installation. No call Monday, no call Tues...On Weds we called our salesperson to complain and he said give them another week. I decided to call customer service to see why there was a problem (many of our neighbors had installation already). After THREE HOURS ON THE PHONE with what I can only call the most incompetant customer service people I have ever spoken to, I was told that either my address does not exist or there are no fiber optic cables in our area. Why did they go door to door telling me that there were, you may ask? I don't know! And the rep asked me to go door to door to my neighbors asking for the phone numbers of people who had it successfully installed! Never have I had to work so hard to PAY SOMEONE FOR A SERVICE! We've basically given up and will stay with Cablevision. I wrote a long letter of complaint--between the initial meeting and the calls, FIVE hours of my time during the past week was spent talking to Verizon, only to be told they don't *think* they can give me service. They're not sure, and no one cares enough to check. I ended my complaint letter with "now that I have spoken to Verizon for 5 hours in the past week, I can safely say that I know more about your services and policies that 99% of your incompetant employees."

I know I am in the minority but we got FIOS and HATED it so much (50% because of Verizon customer service) that we switched back to cablevision within a few days.

Have it and love it. No complaints. Not sure I should mention after reading the above posters comments, but I actually work for verizon in customer service. Not everyone is incompetent that works there. Not that I am saying that everyone is perfect, like any other company, there are good reps and bad reps. Sorry you had such a bad experience.

I didn't mean to bash anyone personally--I know I just experienced some bad luck.  The problem is that I started with Tech Support (the number the salesman gave me), who directed me to Billing, who couldn't help me, who directed me to the Welcome Center, who disconnected me after 1 hour. After reconnecting with the Welcome center, I was connected to I believe the Fiber Optic Cable Center (?) and someone there finally told me that there are no cables in my area! Why go door to door telling me there is service in my area, and then after I join and get excited about FiOS, tell me that it doesn't really exist! Or better yet, that my address doesn't exist! The customer service areas all just seemed so disjointed and unaware of what the other areas do--I had an order number starting with "E", which I now know means Engineer. The Welcome Center and Billing told me that no numbers exist starting with "E" and I must be reading the wrong number. I actually started laughing hysterically at one point...I was on with Tech Support, who couldn't help me at all and told me I must have cancelled my order (when I said I didn't, they said my HUSBAND must have cancelled it without telling me!), and they ended the call with "Remember we are here 24/7 to help!" BUT NO ONE COULD HELP ME!

It just seems so much cheaper than what I pay now. And I like the idea of getting a free 19" tv (which I need right now. . so I may as well get it free!)

It didn't come in any cheaper than our Cablevision triple play, but there were more movie channels. The channels are different. And keep in mind a 19" TV is smaller than the screen on my laptop...It's a tiny, tiny screen.

I can tell you that my DH works for cablevision and he tells me tons of people call to get their cable back. You get more channels (movie and hd)

Love it. I like it a billion times better than Cablevision. BUT - I think their bills are harder to read and they charge you for information calls.

I think for a large company, the customer service depends on the individual you call. I had really good experiences with customer service and technical support with FiOS. I've had bad service with Cable. I don't blame the entire company, just the individuals.
I prefer Verizon and would never EVER go to cable. Had cable, went to verizon for old-school phones, DSL for Internet, and DishNetwork for TV. Still have satellite for TV, but FiOS for phone and Internet.

We had a hard time getting someone to actually come to do the installation for FIOS - some BS about our address not being logged.
But now that we finally have FIOS, I like the service itself much better. Internet, phone and TV are better IMO. And despite Cablevision's commercials, I really don't give a fluck that I don't get News 12 
BUT - it IS taking some work getting used to the channels being different numbers!!

If HD channels is a priority for you. FIOS just announced that they will have 60 HD channels this spring and 150 by the end of 2008.

We had it, and DH switched us to Cablevision, which was ok for a while, but the computer kept freezing!  Told DH to switch back ASAP! We did and now I'm a happy camper. 
He misses Channel 12 News.

My DH signed us up on Thursday. I was not so enthusiastic and heard that Cablevision will give you a better rate to keep you as a customer.
I called Cablevision first thing this morning and have locked in for 12 months for $40 less a month. I have been on hold with Verizon now for 12 minutes trying to cancel our order. I'm still on hold....
