Few questions for the new 1-year-olds (or close)

- Does your child still try to put everything into their mouth?
DD does, she's never stopped since she began as a baby. She's teething, but that's not why she does it-- she does it all the time, with everything.

- Does your child still wake at night to eat?
DD does, almost every night. Has a bottle and goes right back to sleep. I know we should try to stop it, but I feel like she really is hungry since she pounds the bottle and goes right back to bed.

Bella's definitely better about putting everything in her mouth. Her toys she knows she can, but if she finds something she knows she's not supposed to chew on...she'll offer it to me first.

She started popping up during the night recently. It's hit or miss. Since I'm still BFing, I won't nurse her because I don't want to start her getting into that habit. I'll go in, rock her for a few min then put her down.

We're on day #3 of CIO, so... Chat Icon

DD is almost 14 mos. and yes, she eats everything!! I found her walking around eating her hospital bracelet yesterday...yep, she got into her baby book!

Honestly, though, I don't think she's gotten up for a nighttime feeding since 4 or 5 mos at the latest?

He does...but it seems only things that he shouldn't, like pennies...Chat Icon

As for the nighttime feedings, we did CIO with it at 12 months exactly. You kind of have to. DS would pound the bottle too, but when we started doing CIO, nothing changed, he didn't eat more before bed, or wake up starving in the AM. It really is just comfort at this point.Chat Icon

Re: Few questions for the new 1-year-olds (or close)

DS still puts stuff in his mouth but not as bad as it used to be. I think he goes through phases depending on how his teeth feel.

In terms of night-time feedings, he hasn't since before 3 months old. He has a bottle at around 7pm and is up at 6am for another. That's not to say that he doesn't wake on occasion. We go through these phases too. It's rare that I don't get up at least once for him. But typically all he needs is his pacifier and he goes back down right away. I don't even pick him up. Some nights this can happen up to 4 or 5 times.

-she doesn't get up to eat- but she's never really had bottles. we stopped nighttime feedings around 9 months when i stopped BFing.

Yes. Not as bad but still. He is "selective". He eats his toys, tries to "eat" us (but being taught not to), his books. He does not eat lints on the floor (missed by the vacuum) or things like that.

- Does your child still wake at night to eat?

Unless he has a bad dream he does full nights. About 8pm-6/6:30am. No more night feedings for months now.

he doesnt wake up to eat in the middle of the night, sometimes he does wake up around 5-6am and I give him bottle then if he is hungry...

Re: Few questions for the new 1-year-olds (or close)

DS has everything in his mouth....like even the tiniest thing he finds on the floor in his mouth....very annoying

My dr gave strict orders to not give a bottle or any other liquid in the middle of the night. She said to check for fever, but then if he is okay then let him go back to sleep without liquids

He cried like crazy one night at 4 am and it killed me, but then he just fell asleep and slept til 7:15!!! He obviously wasnt hungry...at this age, it is habitual if it is allowed

DD is shoving EVERYTHING way into the back of her mouth. Food, fingers, toys - whatever she can get in there.

We stopped the middle of the night feedings around 4 months. Once in awhile if she's sick or teething bad and eats less during the day - she will wake up hungy during the night. I think that has happened twice. She was refusing her morning bottle for about 6 days but her pediatrician wasn't concerned since she was still showing regular eating habits the rest of the day. She started fussing again for her bottle yesterday morning.

She does go back and forth though on wanting the sippy cup. One day she will nurse it - drink an ounce or two and then go play and then another day she will just drink it all down at one shot. We've been in this holding pattern for about 2 weeks now.

Not as much as she used to. She'll find something 'new' on the floor and sometimes attempts it, but a simple "nah ah" or "not in your mouth" usually suffices.

- Does your child still wake at night to eat?

DD has not woken at night to eat in a very long time ... like maybe since she was 3 months old. In fact, she doesn't wake at night ever, for any reason!

At 14 months, Thomas still puts pretty much everything in his mouth.

He hasn't had a bottle in the night since 6 months, BUT he didn't sleep through the night until 8 1/2 months. Once ped said he didn't "need" nightime bottle at 6 months, I weaned him off of it. He still woke in the night, but it wasn't because he was hungry. He would only drink an ounce or so if offered. He just woke several times a night from 4 - 5 months to 8 1/2 months. maybe it was teething, I don't know, but his first tooth showed around the time he STARTED sleeping through the night. Maybe he experience the majority of pain before the teeth came to the surface enough to see a bump.

He doesn't have a bedtime bottle either since 12 months. His only bottle is first thing a.m. and then he has sippys rest of day.

Gracie hasn't really been putting as much in her mouth now; her thing lately is taking something she shouldn't & holding onto it for dear life & crawling all around w/ it.

She really hasn't gotten up for a middle of the night feeding since maybe 2 months; although at about 10 months or so she's been crying out in the night (but soothes herself back to sleep).

About the same here - everything goes in the mouth. He looks at me, smiles, knows I'm going to tell him no, then sloooooooowly puts it in his mouth.

Nighttime feedings stopped a long time ago.

Erin will be 11 months this month. She puts EVERYTHING in her mouth and it drives up a wall! Chat Icon I am constantly stopping her. I can't wait until this phase is over.

She sleeps straight through the night, thankfully. Goes in after her bath (which really soothes her) at 6:30 and wakes at 6:30 am.

Re: Few questions for the new 1-year-olds (or close)

DD is still putting some things in her mouth- but like Chelle said, if it's something "foreign" she'll offer it to me first.

Night wakings, thankfully, are generally a thing of the past. She DOES cry out every night at about 3am, but it lasts 5 minutes tops and she soothes herself back to sleep. I will say though, during teething episodes she sometimes wakes up and is unable to soothe herself back to sleep. During those times, she absolutely will NOT go back to sleep unless I offer her a bottle. Thankfully, they only last a night or two until the tooth breaks through.

Your DD should be able to sleep through the night at this point- she's NOT hungry (even though she's pounding the bottle)- it's more for comfort than anything else.

We finally did CIO (used Healthy Sleep Habits) and by golly- it WORKED!!!!!

We are definitely seeing a change with Lucas discovering things..less in the mouth and more manipulation with his hands...really studying things. But that's not to say that nothing goes in his mouth...plenty does. Chat Icon

No more waking at night to eat but lately he's been crying at night. We leave him alone and he goes back to sleep but it breaks my heart considering how rough he's had it lately....we're afraid it's connected. But otherwise he sleeps through the night.

Re: Few questions for the new 1-year-olds (or close)

Yes she does still put a lot into her mouth - unfortunately to my horror often more outside of the house rather than at home. But people keep telling me that kids do it for a while more.

Some nights - DD is an erratic sleeper - she will sleep thru the night for 1-2 weeks - then the next wake 3 of the 7 nights the following week. The only way to get her quickly back down is to BF for 2 mins and then she is out - CIO doesn't work for her and she now goes to sleep at night on her own (no more BF or snuggling). I think she is waking mostly b.c of teething - but also our next door neighbors got a dog and it barks outside at all hours of the night and morning.
