Feeding Baby (solid foods related)

Last night I gave Caden some small curd cottage cheese and I got to thinking. My greatgrandmother thought that cottage cheese was the perfect food for growing babies...she used to sprinkle it with cinnamon and sugar and we'd eat it up like ice cream. She was Hungarian (off the boat) and apparently that is what a lot of Hungarian babies eat (or so she said)....

ANYWAY...

Do you have any family foods that are perfect for babies???? I'd love to hear all the traditional foods for babies/toddlers of other countries etc....

We're all italian, my kids will/have eaten meatballs, sauce, ricotta, and pasta as soon as they can handle thicker textures. My oldest had meatballs at 9 months old along with manicotti.

I had meatballs when i was 4 months oldChat Icon

I was shocked when my DD loved eating pastella's. They are a spanish food consisting of mashed plantains and spanish seasonings with olives and chicken. They are wrapped in a banana leaf and then boiled to death. They are definitely an acquired taste. I grew up with them and LOVE them...I just never thought she would love them so young.

Funny you should mention cottage cheese. My mom insisted that in her day, pregnant ladies were told to eat cottage cheese every day. She felt that I should do that, too.

As for baby food, my parents and grandparents seemed to be into mashed up bananas. I'm not sure if that's an ethnic thing or not. We are Ashkenazi Jews. I'm sure they also started us early with Gefilte fish!
