facial eczema help!

DS is 4 months old and has eczema on his face and body. I have been using cortaid on his body and the patches seem to be under control finally, but his poor face! The ped told me not to put the cortaid on his face. Do you think that I could put in on his face after I swaddle him, this way he can't rub at it and get it in his mouth or eyes? Or is there something else that is safe to use on his face that works? I've been using aveeno cream and aquaphor 4X a day which doesn't seem to help at all.

My DS had excema on his face and the doctor prescribed hydrocortisone ( 1% I think ) for it....We were instructed to use it very sparingly ...Is Cortaid different ? Maybe you can see if he can prescibe you something ...Chat Icon

cortaid is the same thing as hydrocortizone. I also have 1%. I think I'm gonna put a little bit on his cheeks tonight. thank you!

aquafor (according to our allergist) is VERY drying and aveeno NEVER did anything for Emma...

we use CeraVe on her face & body now that it's healed....(preventive - HIGHLY recommend it).

for the problem now though - ask your doc if you can get a steroid mixed with a moisturizer, that's what we were given. it worked like a dream. We would put it on her every night at bedtime on her face...so she wasn't rubbing.

my ds had horrible eczema on his face and body. For him it ended up being an allergy to dairy. When he does have flair ups, I use California Baby with aquaphor and it helps.

I was ebf at the time and my ped and my own allergist (I have allergies) told me to take dairy out of my diet for 2 weeks. Low and behold his entire face cleared up. When he was bit older I tested him and found not only is he allergic to dairy, but severely to banana as well.

wow aquaphor is drying?? and look at how many people are using it. Well it's definitely is not working at all to clear his face up, so I'm not surprised. Thank you for letting me know this.

we use this too...it's the only thing that works. Cortizone can change the color of the skin if used too often that's why we use it sparingly.

Re: facial eczema help!

Hi. My DS is almost 3 months old and his eczema his horrible. We put aquaphor on it constantly and i don't see how it is helping. The doctor has prescribed different strength cortisone gels which do work but if we miss a dose it starts flaring up badly. We swaddle so he stops scratching at his eyes. So, I 'm really no help just wanted to know not alone. I've been told to put vaseline around his eyes and helps a little.

Re: facial eczema help!

thank you! I'm definitely going to ask for a prescription especially after seeing how well the otc cortizone worked on his arms and legs. I hope that as it gets warmer it will get better.
