Eczema like rash caused by milk?? UPDATE with pics

Has this happened to anyone's DC?

DD has a rash on her body...not all over, just in various spots.

One patch in the bend of her elbow...a circle one on her tummy and little dots of it on her shoulder blade area and under arm.

They are red rasied and rough. They seem like dry patches. They disappear somewhat during the day but seem to get brighter when she is in the bath.

She's not itching and they don't bother her.

Tonight I noticed that her cheeks are red and her chin and they seem dry too.

KateDevine mentioned eczema due to the milk....and she has been drinking a LOT more milk this past week.

Thoughts???

And she was sensitive to milk when you were BFing, right?

Sounds entirely possible. DD doesn't have eczema thankfully, but DH has it pretty bad. The only time he really gets flare-up are when he sweats, in the creases of his arms & behind his knees, and on his hands. Sorry I can't help

Todd Jr is EBF, but has the same eczema patches on his legs, arms and face. It comes and goes, I give him a bath every 3 days, and use a cream the Dr gave me and put aquaphor on him also.

Julia had it when she was a baby also, but not as bad, I don't think its just milk that causes it, cold weather tends to bring it out too.

that sounds like what DS has. DS has dermatitis, which is a form of eczema. we just got a foam cream called verdeso which is the first thing that's actually cleared it up. the doctor gave us samples.

Eczema can be a side effect of several food allergens including milk. I forget what the others are but I'll look back at Andy's allergy tests later tonight.

If it keeps getting worse mention it to your pediatrician. We eventually had to see a pediatric dermatologist to get Andy's under control.

Defintely eczema. John has it on his face and torso. I used some kind of prescribed medication and then just plain cortizone and then put lotion on his face twice a day. And he always gets it when it's cold out.

Probably eczema, but it's very common and not necessarily having anything to do with the milk. Could just be the cold weather. I'd some aquaphor on it for a few days and if it didn't get better go to the Ped for an Rx of something stronger.


ETA: ezcema can get worse from over bathing or keeping the water too warm. When DD gets it we try not to give her a bath more than every other day and keep the water warm, but not too warm.

Naohs cheeks look just like that, from the cold and also ..eww...snotty nose. Has she had a runny nose?

And he has dry spots I thought were from not using enough lotion.

BTW- the second pic...she looks like..MOM...what are you doing? ( cutie )

I used to get it in the crease of my elbow from sweat building up in there.
But that used to just happen in the summer. Could just be the cold weather coming on so suddenly.
Poor thing....that picture in the bath was adorable though!

My son has a dairy allergy....he had horrible ezema until we realized that was it. Now he's been ezema free since then. My dd however is not allergic to milk / dairy and breaks out in ezema every once in awhile espeically when the seaons change to cold / hot and hot / cold, etc.

From the pics, it look like the excema my DS has...It pops up usually in the colder months ( he has it right now actually in a couple of spots, belly, calf..)..the doc prescribed him hydrocordisone and we use it very sparingly...He has had it since he was just a few months old

I have those patches on me right now. On my thights. It's eczema or a form of it. It's the weather. It happens every year.

Did you change detergent? Make sure you don't use anything with fragnance (even body creams/lotions) and no softeners.

Make sure she wears all cotton clothing also.

Todd Jr has patches like that but they are raised more and very flakey and red. I would take her to the Dr (dermatologist) before it gets worse!

Thanks everyone for your replies

Her face cleared up over night after putting the aquaphor on it and I've stopped giving her milk for now just to see if that was causing something.

So far they seem to be disappearing with the combo of the Aquaphor and no milk

We'll have her 18 mth Ped visit in a week so I'm going to bring it up then.
