Engagement gift for someone who isn't registered

I need to get a gift for a friend (who I haven't seen in quite some time) who is recently engaged. She does not have a registry and since I don't see her often, I really don't know what she can use. I'm looking to spend about $100. Any suggestions!?

*I'd rather not give a GC.

I just bought my cousin a really cool handpainted wine glass from the hallmark store and a gift certificate for a romantic restaurant.

my standard engagement gift if someone doesn't have a registry is a really nice bottle of champagne and two extra nice champagne flutes. Something they wouldn't spend the money on themselves..

Toasting flutes and a cake cutter with their wedding date engraved ( if they've set a date)
A plaque with their names and a quote about love or their wedding date
Good bottle of wine or champagne
Gc to a spa for couples' massage

I'm totally in the same boat and wanted to spend less than you. I stole this idea from someone. My gift will be several small gifts for the home representing each season/holiday. The fall decor is super easy to find now and I found great x-mas items too. I just need some fill ins for spring and its set. I'm wrapping each season separately from the other. HTH, gd luck!

When someone is NOT registered its a passive agressive way to say "I want money".

With that being said I ALWAYS give money. THATS what the couple wants for engagement or wedding. I always give a gift at the shower.

ETA: I just realized its for an engagement. Maybe they hadnt had time to register yet. Give them money.

I think $$$ is the best gift to give newly engaged people... its what they need at that point and most appreciated.
I know we are not into crystal and stuff... and there are only so many cake cutters, flutes, vases and picture frames one can have! Let them register for the ones they want and then get them for the shower or something!

ITA. I always give money at engagement parties. Specifically, Amex gift cards.
