Consumer Reports rated the Dyson #8. Here are their top three (just came out last month or so) which are a lot cheaper.

1 Hoover WindTunnel Self Propelled Ultra U6439-900 $250
2 Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 CR Best Buy $140
3 Kenmore (Sears) Progressive with Direct Drive 34922 $300

HTH!

I have one and love it. I think it does such a great job picking evrything up. It has great attachments too, for stairs, furniture etc. I also love the no bag thing, you just dump it out and keep going.
If you get one, get it at Bed Bath and Beyond and use the 20% off coupon, you can save alot that way.

ETA: I do think it does a much better job than my last vacuum, which I can't remember the name of for some reason right now!

Re: Dyosn - Is it worth the $$$?

I love mine - we have the animal, got it about year ago. We had a windtunnel about (4 years old - not bagless) the animal does a much better job. We had three cats, you should see how much hair it picks up.

Re: Dyosn - Is it worth the $$$?

We got the yellow dyson as a wedding present (can you tell how into electronics and gadgets my DH is???) - we have almost no furniture to speak of but gadgets gosh we have plenty.

Ok my dyson is now on sale at Home depot for less than 200. When we got it it was 400. It is heavy. DH brings it upstairs and down for me, BUT it ***** like no ones business and is easy to use once you get used to it. It takes away everything. I used another vaccuum andthen the dywson and the dyson still got more dirt out. So I like only having to vaccuum once a week. It works very well. I am not sure it is worth 400 but if you can find the older yellow model for 200, then yes it really is a good deal.

Re: Dyosn - Is it worth the $$$?

I have one...and I love it. I have the animal (the purple one). It picks up so much stuff...we have a dog and 2 cats. I love that it's bagless. My SIL had one and raved about it, which is why I got one. I did use the 20% coupon at BBB, so it only cost $400 instead of $500.

Re: Dyosn - Is it worth the $$$?

My friend the neat freak has one and does nothing but brag about how good it is and how much she loves it. She vaccumms the entire house twice a day and was know for burnning out vac's within like 6 mths so she got the dyson and loved it so much she bought a second one, one for up and one for down. She got them when they first first came out and still hasnt burnt one out yet so that is a good sign.

it reads in the fine print on the BBB coupons that it cannot be used for dyson products. i'll have to look into this.

thanks for all your responses.

Someone got offended that you didn't like their Vacuum? Oh for goodness sakes.

I have the Dyson Animal- the purple one, and I love it. I have two cats that shed all over my molding, and it ***** the fur right off. It was a wedding gift.

I think BBB has a floor space that has several vacuums on display for you to try, how about you start there?

I agree! I have one and it is the best vacuum I've ever owned. (My cleaning lady loves it too.)
