Do your parents/in laws...gift related
Do your parents buy you AND Dh Bday gifts? How about your In laws? Do they buy you and DH bday gifts?
If they don't , do you still buy them bday gifts? Or is basically an unwritten "rule" that there is a no gift policy, and maybe just a card or something?
Edited to answer:
My parents buy DH and I bday gifts and take us to dinner
We buy them gifts and take them to dinner
They sent us 5 cards for our bday...(our bdays are 1 day apart April 5th and 6th)
My in laws do not buy either of us bday gifts , they took us to dinner when we were in CT this past weekend but Dhs dad and brother split dinner...no cards either
we always buy his parents gifts and take them to dinner...

We don't buy my parents gifts and they don't buy for us.
As far as the inlaws, we exchange equally. We buy them gifts, they buy both of us gifts. Usually a dinner is involved as well. For example, Wednesday was my FIL's bday so we're celebrating today. I'm getting him a gift and since both DH's sister and us are trying to save money, we're ordering in some pizzas.

My mom buys me & DH gifts. My dad doesn't even give me a gift but sends me a card but not DH (he probably doesn't even know when his bday is).
We always get my mom a gift. Not my dad.
And DH's parents are deceased.

DH & I have had this discussion with my mother many times. We do not need anything, so please don't buy us anything, save your money for yourself. We enjoy just getting together for cake.
BUT, she still hasn't listened. She tells us she likes to buy presents.

Both my parents & IL's buy both my DH & I presents for our birthday's. We also get a dinner from each mother!
When it comes time for their birthday, we do the same.

At my MIL's request, we no longer exchange birthday gifts.
My parents get both of us gifts and we give both of them gifts.

We give and get from both sets of parents. It's not always a big gift, but it's always something. My MIL's b-day just passed and we bought her a plant, a big framed black and white of the baby and I threw her a b-day party at our house- which wound up costing me more than we'd ever spend on a gift.

My mom and stepdad give us a card with a check. My stepmom and dad don't give him gifts.
My IL's always give both of us b-day gifts.
ETA: We give them all gifts.

Parents buy us both gifts. We always buy gifts for my mom (even ones FH picks out and buys on his own), but no one ever really takes initiative with his parents. I ask him "Whata re we getting your mom for her birthday" and he'll say "She doens't expect a gift" I'll say "thats not the point, we should get her something..what should we get her?" and he is generally unresponsive, so I figure I'm not going to worry about it either.

his parents and my parents buy us both gifts for our birthdays... for our parents birthdays, they all told us a few times that they don't need anymore "stuff"- so we usually just take them out to dinner or get them something small that they asked for...

Both sets of parents buy gifts for both of us. We get them cards and usually a small gift, but they understand our financial situation. Usually the gifts they get for us are practical ones.

DH says his family isnt into bdays as much as mine is, but for his 10 yr old brother everyone goes all out---and we are always buying gifts, but we dont even get a card for our bdays...it's not really "the gift" its the thought behind it-I don't know, it kind of makes me  and to be honest

DH and I get presents from each set of parents, and we give to all the parents.
I kind of wish we didn't...There is nothing that we need, and it takes me forever shopping around for anything that they would want. FIL gives a list of things he wants but I hate doing that, I feel like it takes the fun/excitement out of gifts.
ETA: I actually usually have 3 celebrations...One with DH alone, one with my mom, and with the ILs! MIL always gets me a cake and makes dinner, which is very nice. I love ice cream cake.

My mom's rule is you get a gift until you turn 30. And the gift you get is a check representing your age. So I got a check for $29 this year.
I'll usually get her something small, like a gc for mani/pedi.

I'm not really allowed to buy my Dad gifts- he gets mad and would rather we save the money then spend it on him- unless it's omaha steaks- so I usally get him those for christmas
I normally get money from him for every holiday- that's always the way in went in my family- then you can buy your own gifts- the christmas check is for the both of us- but I really only get a birthday one
my inlaws do the same since they also don't live here anymore

My parents always send my dh and I a check for our bdays.
We sent them a check for their's.
My mil does NOTHING!! for either of us (maybe a card some years for my dh).
