when its time to get up? when they cry? when they call for you? when they just woke and start moving around?
I never know what to do, sometimes DS cries when I pick him up, and I wonder if he needs a few more moments to chill out in his crib, and think I probably should wait when he starts yelling or something

Unless I had to go somewhere, I usually wait for their cue in the morning or after a nap or anything.

When older ds calls for me I take him out and when the little one has a full blown cry I will take him out. If they are happy in the crib they stay and play around.

Basically the same. I do not take them out until they cry. Sometimes my husband will go in and tell them its still night night time and get another 20 mins or so

My kids are so happy in their cribs when they wake up, if I waited until they cried they'd literally be in there 2+ hours. I usually let them go up to an hour or so, especially in the morning.
