Do you personally know someone who has gotten a DWI?
or....Do you know someone who has injured themselves or someone else while driving drunk
as far as I know, no body that I know has gotten a DWI or been in an alcohol related crash

I know four people who have gotten a DUI or a DWI.
I don't know anyone who has gotten into an alcohol-related crash.

Yes ! I know someone that had a DWI before , and my SIL was killed when she was 17 b/c her BF was drinking and driving

Gotten a DWI, no.
My father totaled the car driving drunk when I was toddler. I was in the car, as was my mother who was pregnant with my brother. I'm so lucky to be alive.
Another family member that I"m very close to hit the median on the Meadowbrook while smashed, but was able to get home and so wasn't charged since the cops didn't catch them. They have not had a drop to drink since that night and I'm proud to say they are coming up on 10 years sober.

Yes. 6 years ago I clerked for a criminal judge. During that summer I became very friendly with the law clerk. She was bizarre and off, but I looked past it. There were a number of occasions we went out together and she got so drunk that she blacked out and abandoned me. She never drove though and always took a cab. She was also always claiming she was broke and weaseled me, a broke law student, into giving her cash to pay her bills on a number of occasions. Shame on me...
At the end of the summer she called out sick, and then called me personally to tell me that she had been pulled over for DWI. She "claimed" she was just moving her car from one side of the street to the other because of street cleaning and some officers who had staked her out at the bar were just waiting for her to do it. Yeah, right...
Once the summer was over, I had enough and I had it out with her and we never spoke again. Years later I was perusing our local legal newspaper and lo and behold, turns out she was disbarred. She drove drunk on the NJ Tpke, turned around illegally and slammed into a minivan with a family. THANKFULLY no one was killed but a 5 year old was left with some serious injuries.
I dug a little deeper into the court records where she conceded that she was an alcoholic and addicted to coke, for years, including the time I knew her. It all added up when I read that...

Yes. My cousin was killed when he was a passenger in a car full of his friends. They had ALL been drinking and the driver was going 90 miles per hour on a NYC avenue when he crashed into a tree, killing my cousin, and two other passengers. The driver and one other passenger survived.
Also a friend of DH's got a DWI.

I know of at least 2 friends who have gotten DWI... didnt hurt anyone... just 1 ironically crashed into a cop car... of all things to hit... no bueno... license suspended, jail etc

Know someone? Yes, several. I'm sure there are more than the people I know but they don't talk about it.
As for accidents, yes far too many. I know someone that was killed in a drunken bar fight - head injury.
A relative of mine was in a car accident, flipped her car & broke every vertabrae except the top 2 (she can walk).
