Do you like where you work ?

I was having this conversation with a friend and I was saying how I love my company. My job itself it’s not my ideal job but and originally I started working here as a temporary thing but my company itself it’s pretty good. great benefits, my boss and coworkers are super understanding, even HR when I needed to take a leave for surgery make sure i took as much time as I needed and told me of options to extend my time off (pay time off) if I wanted to. My position itself it’s not what I wanted to do but I always hear stories of people hating who they work for.

i work for the DOE. insurance, retirement/TDA, etc is absolutely amazing and really doesn't come close to other teacher's in other districts on LI and whatnot. When I was on LI, my TDA was only fixed at 4% (it's 7% in the DOE) and health benefits were not free. For that, I love the institution I work for.

Most days I love my job. I teach a lot of children and have good and bad days, as do they. But overall I am very happy where I am, and I'm appreciated by my boss which is so important to me.

Re: Do you like where you work ?

I love my situation because it's super flexible, my boss is a friend who I have worked with for 15 years and through 3 companies, he hired me here at 7 months pregnant, gives me the flexibility to balance my family and career and I pretty much come and go as I please.
Overall it's a good company as well.
Some of the people in my immediate offices I don't care for but that's not a big deal...my actual team is very tight and a group of pretty great people

Love my boss, love the flexibility, I could never have the flexibility I have now, I come and go, however, I have recently interviews for a state job... so... benefits may have to come as a trade off for the flexibility. Overal, I love most people I work with, my role is eh but growing and I do enjoy it.... however I HATE the politics, the expectation that you work 24/7 (thankfully my boss knows not to try that with me) and that it comes down to $$$$ and not the people we help. So it’s a toss up. Overall I know I have it good and I made pretty good money

My company is awesome. My job is pretty awesome, but I am burnt out and that kind of sucks. I think it's just a phase of life I am in, but I'm just so eh about my job these days.

I love my job and the company I work for. I have been here for over a decade. I wake up most days excited to head in to work and I genuinely love many of the people I work with. Some of them have become very close friends. My company was extremely supportive when I was sick and not once did I feel any pressure to go to work back then (although most days I did go in, mainly because it helped me cope by being productive) and they are very much into employees having a proper work/life balance. My benefits (and DH’s since he is self employed) are covered 100%, they have a great 401k and pension. I love what I do and my immediate bosses are awesome. It’s not perfect, but damn near close.

Re: Do you like where you work ?

For the most part, I love my job. I make my own hours, have flexibility where if I need to bring my daughter in I can, and get along with everyone I work with. I am however grossly underpaid. My position, in a corporate environment (currently Mom & Pop family owned business), would pay an additional $15-20k a year from what I’ve been told. I plan on looking after I give birth and see what’s out there because bottom line, while I throughly love what I do, I have bills to pay and mouths to feed.

Re: Do you like where you work ?

I don’t really work under a contract, but I work freelance (my contract ended and it’s difficult to explain the laws and how they work here). I am technically unemployed.

I do freelance at the place I had my contract at the university. I love that job and most of the people. However, I’ve been in two different departments (American and UK studies), and I don’t care for one department.

I love teaching English, though. I love making fun games for the students, so that they learn. I love helping people. At the moment I’m trying to set up a business at home to give private lessons. I’m just starting out, but I have a few clients interested and one booked (I just started this 2 weeks ago). I had a great lesson with a student yesterday that I was so nervous about (first lesson), and she was really happy and I felt energized the rest of the day.

Ditto.

I loooove my school and am so grateful to be in a school where we can be creative and have fun. It's a LI environment in a NYC setting.

The commute? Eh...I'd love the LI commute and the snow day mentality.

This sounds amazing!!!! You are so lucky to have this and it’s nice to hear places still encouraging a work/ life balance!

Re: Do you like where you work ?

I chose other because I work independently as a graphic designer from home. I have a long term client (11 years now) and just started with a new client a year ago which will hopefully be long term as well. I do smaller projects in between.

I like it, love it and hate it all in one. Working for yourself is no longer 9-5, but 24/7. But with what I do, I get 2-3 week stretches of having practically nothing I HAVE to work on. That perk alone makes working through the night at times worth it. Plus dealing with my clients can be taxing at times. 11 years of explaining the same stuff (Why we must stick to deadlines, printer rules, etc) can be quite exhausting.

Also, I never felt like this is what I was meant to do as my profession. I do it because I am good at it & it makes me decent $. Not because it drives me. That part stinks.

Re: Do you like where you work ?

Not in the very least.
I suck it up because the benefits are awesome, it's a 9-5 job with an hour paid lunch and I've been here for almost 24 years.
I get paid well for the work that I do, and once I leave the office, work stays behind.

I work for a foreign company, so there is definite gender and ethnic divide. There is no upward mobility.
I plan on retiring in a few years, so it doesn't pay for me to find another job.

Re: Do you like where you work ?

I'd say meh. It's a good company, with good benefits, and my boss really likes me. I'm not in a position I'm entirely happy with and my boss has been a big supporter and is always trying to find new opportunities for me within my company. I make a decent salary and it's something I can mostly leave at the office at the end of the day. I'm expected to do overtime regularly, but it's doing a part of my job I particularly enjoy and I don't mind the extra cash. I also get to work directly with MIL in this capacity, which, for me, is actually a plus not a negative. Chat Icon

On the flip side, many of the support staff departments including my own and my MIL's are seriously understaffed. They don't seem to hire anyone because, well, the work gets done anyway, so why should they? It's stressful, more so for my MIL than for me, but I wish they would wake up and see that they are running some of their best employees ragged.

I enjoy coming to work because my boss and I get along very well but this isn't my dream job. I work for a big corporation and while it isn't the greatest company to work for, I get paid well, have flexibility in hours, etc.

Re: Do you like where you work ?

I chose "Meh"... I don't hate my job but I feel like I am stuck and don't have many options due to my situation. My son is special needs and my boss allows me to come in a half hour later so that I can put him on the bus in the morning. There is no room for advancement and the pay is not great. Also we've been taking on more work with no increase in pay (and no plans to hire anyone else). But I do get a good amount of vacation time.

I chose "Meh". I don't like the company. All about cost-cutting and doing "more with less" which has been going on for years. The joke is there is no less. It's doing more with nothingChat Icon

However, I love the people I work with and love my boss. He is the most easy going, laid back and funny person. He is also super flexible with me. I have a special needs son that I take to private therapy once per week and usually have to leave a little early to do so (or once in awhile come in late bc I need to see his teacher, etc.). He's happy as long as the work gets done. He fully trusts his team and will stand up for us in a second (very rare now-a-days). He has been here forever so he is well respected. We all tell him that the day he leaves, he better give us notice because we would prob all leave too.Chat Icon

Re: Do you like where you work ?

i chose "love it."

i work for a knuckle head, who doesn't know how to communicate with his employees and leaves everything for the last minute... but

the company i work for is pretty good
* great benefits
* good 401k
* pension
* great vacation time
* my work day (hours) are very flexible... i can pretty much pick my hours

because i work for such a large company, there are some pretty sweet employee discounts.

when i had my recent back-to-back surgeries, everything/everyone was very accommodating... even when there was a small glitch in the process.

For the most part, yes. My boss is great and it is a welcome change to the job I had previously and hated. The benefits are eh and it is definitely not my dream job but the commute is great and it’s a good fit for my life at the moment.

I like what I do and I like my direct management team. The company itself is bleh. They are flexible with hours but there are also a lot of OT hours worked that I dont get paid for. There is a lot of room to grow and learn but raises and bonus arent that great to other companies in the industry.

I HATE the offie I work in. I love my boss and what I do though. I followed him to this firm, and neither one of us likes it at all. He doesn't want to leave because he's getting close to retirement and doesn't want to bounce his clients around. If it weren't for him, I would leave, but we've worked together for forever and I actually love working for him.

Do you like where you work ?

I like my job but am just eh about where I work. I preferred working at a midsize high school (~1000 students) not a large school (2500 students). I also liked my 8 minute commute.
