Re: Do you have young toddlers? Tree Question

we dont have a tree yet because im scared what they're going to do to it. they'rre at the climb everything and eat everything stage. they work off each other and get into 3x the messes lol! im def not buying another gate just for a tree.
we will buy a small tree this weekend and try to fend them off as well as possible. but i know it wont go over well.

Do you have young toddlers? Tree Question

Yes and no. lol We have two trees. The fake 12 ft. one is the one that is gated. Our real 8 ft. one isn't although I did have plans to do it but never got around to it and and hasn't been as bad as I thought it was going to be. I have twin 3 year olds but I only did the gate because of my 18 month old. I won't do it anymore after this year though.

I don't have the room to gate the tree, but wish I could. My son has pulled off and broken handfuls of ornaments

Never gated our tree in 7.5 years. I just didn't see the need to. They really didn't have an interest in it. I would let them help me decorate and place the ornaments on the tree, even at 2 and that was it.

We had our tree gated but DS was very "active." Chat Icon I think it depends on your individual child.

No gate because DD is not an issue with the tree. My cats are. And a gate won:t stop.them!!

Our family room tree is large and wired/anchored to two walls. We also do shatterproof ornaments. In the past, I've kept ornaments on the bottom to a minimum just because of fear of them swallowing small parts, etc..

Our dining room tree is all glass ornamnets, but when they were/are toddlers, our dining room is closed off with a baby gate.

Same. We just reinforce over and over not to touch the tree. Eventually they got it.

Re: Do you have young toddlers? Tree Question

Yes, I gated my tree this year. DD is still using furniture/Christmas trees to stand up so I thought it best. I don't intend to gate in the future though.

No gate here. But I let him touch it when it first went up and I remind him when he gets close to be careful. I feel like if you give them a few minutes to explore, it helps. The novelty eventually wears off.
