For me, I had to fill out the preregisration form and give it to my OB. She did the rest.

Definitely pre-register. You do not want to be filling out paperwork while you are in laborChat Icon

My doctor gave me the paper work to preregister at around 28 weeks and told me to mail it in by 36 weeks. I highly recommend it because all I had to do was sign 3 papers when I got their. I couldnt imagine filling out all that paperwork while having contractions.

I received my paperwork from my doctor.

For all of those pre-registering, you may want to keep a copy. The hospital didn't have my paperwork either time I had pre-registered. The second time DH missed seeing Maddie born because he was stuck filling it out.Chat Icon

Re: Do you have to "preregister" at the hospital?

I kept meaning to preregister, but never got around to it. It was not a big deal at all. DH just went to admitting and took care of it while the nurses were getting me set up in the labor room. It only took him about 5 minutes.

ETA: they won't expect you to go there and fill out forms while in labor. If you've ever seen hospital employees with a woman in labor, they don't want you anywhere but in L&D.

Except at 2 in the morning when you're saying "Ow, ow, ow." The woman asked me about 20 questions before she got to "and you're here because?" When I said "I'm in labor!" She said "Ok, do you need to go upstairs yet?" Chat Icon

Re: Do you have to "preregister" at the hospital?

your obgyn should give you the paper work, then you just send it in, its a good thing to do all the paperwork ahead of time and not have to worry about it later on.Chat Icon

Re: Do you have to "preregister" at the hospital?

I filled out all my paperwork a few months ago and sent it in to the hospital. You can also go onto your hospital's website to see if you can download the forms from there if your OB didn't give them to you in advance.
