Do you have cemetary plots already set up?

I know it's a morbid thought, but did you already buy your cemetary plots? I have been thinking about it for awhile but havent mentioned anything to DH yet.

And - what happens if you move out of state before you have to use it and don't want to be buried there? Can you sell it back?

Nope, not our thing. We both want to be cremated. We don't believe in any kind of after life.
I know that IL's will sell their plots when they move here.

No. I won't do it until we are a little older.

So funny - my husband mentioned it to me the other day that we should buy plots now. Chat Icon

No, but we've been thinking about it.
hopefully, we won't need them anytime soon, but if god forbid something should happen to us, it will already be taken care of. We also happen to like the cemetery that my family has a plot in, and there is a possibility it will get sold out sooner then later.

Sort of. DH's family has a plot upstate that we can go in if we want.

But the thought of spending eternity with my MIL Chat Icon

I imagine we'll get something near where we retire to.

We don't but when my mom passed away suddenly last year and she did not have a plot, we decided that we should look into one.

I think Cremation is the way to go, we are going to run out of space soon, so better that nothing is left of me on the earth...takes up less room!

No, we have not yet. I want to be buried, DH wants to be creamated. That makes it interesting for us, hence the reason we don't have any yet.

Re: Do you have cemetary plots already set up?

we are going to purchase them later in life, my parents plan on purchasing them after they sell their house.

My mom and dad promised that they would never do that to us after they pass away-my mom jsut went through it with my grandfather and it was awful to pick and go through the whole process after you lose a loved one.

That is why we want to get a plot now so that no one has to do it.

Re: Do you have cemetary plots already set up?

The only reason we got one is that my dad passed away and there were 2 plots next to his for my sister and I and we took them as the prices just keep going up.

Re: Do you have cemetary plots already set up?

DW are going for the "ashes to ashes" route. My aunt and uncle are tied to the cemetery where their daughter is buried Chat Icon because they don't want to be too far away. I would hate to tie my family to a location just to visit a stone marker in the ground. Once I'm cremated, it's up to them to decide what to do. Spreading them at sea, mixing them with soil to plant a tree, divvying me up in urns so everyone gets a little bit in a Tuperware container.... it's fine with me, but at least they'll be able to live their lives where they want.

I want to do that "make a stone out of me" thing, so I guess it's going to be cremation. I want to be turned into a yellow diamond/stone and given to AmberChat Icon

I would rather be cremated. I don't want to spend any sort of time underground.

Re: Do you have cemetary plots already set up?

We don't own plots yet but we will be buried in the same little cemetary our son is buried at. most of my DH's family is buried there. so if we go before we buy them everyone knows where we want to be!

Dh wants to be cremated. Me, I don't know.

But in any cases, we "updated" our life insurance to cover any expenses (and then some!!!).

Re: Do you have cemetary plots already set up?

We don't; have anything like that set up but this totally reminds me of an Everybody loves Raymond episode where Marie was pushing Ray to buy cemetery plots next to her's and Frank's and Deborah was refusing because she was already spending every day of her life right next to them and she didn't want to spend the eternity with them as well.Chat Icon

They were also suggesting that Robert should be buried vertically because he is so big the spot would take to much room on their plot.Chat Icon
