Did you use a bank or broker for your mortgage?
DH and I are about to start the house hunting process. We need to get pre-approved soon, and I was wondering whether it's better to use a mortgage broker or go to several banks ourselves. What are the pros and cons of each? Which one did you choose and why? TIA.

we used a broker, just cuz it was easier for us than trying to shop around, but the mortgage is through wells fargo bank

We used a broker and were so happy with him!
He locked us in at a rate and said that there was a possibility we could get a lower rate, the rate just wouldn't get higher. He did end up getting us a lower rate.
We obviously had to pay a fee but, it was fairly nominal in the grand scheme of things.

bank- citibank. We talked to a broker but he quoted us closing costs that were about 7 grand higher than what the bank said. The difference between the rate he gave us and citibank's rate was minimal and did not justify the fees

We used a broker the first time and bank the second. Our closing costs were exactly half with the bank.

Broker-we only did this beacsue we went through DH's credit union and saved on closing costs. VEry unhappy with the service though.
