Did you give the baby the first Hep B shot in the hospital?
The hospital said it's up to us whether we want the shot done before we leave, or we can do it later with the pediatrician. I guess they need to get it before they start school, so I feel like I have so much time and I don't want to torture the poor kid when it's a day old!
Is there any benefit to doing it in the hospital? If you didn't opt to do that, can you tell me why?

I know some people had it done at a week. I think we had it done at 2 months old. I didn't want him getting stuck with anything when he was that little!

No we did not. I don't feel she is at risk for HepB at such a young age. She is one and still has not received any HepB shots.

I did have the hospital give DS the Hep B shot. It was given to him at 1 hour old.

My hospital didn't offer it when my daughter was born (although they do now) but I would have refused it anyway. We had no risk factors that would require her to get it so early. I don't find it benefitical at all to give a healthy baby a vaccine right out of the womb unless one of the parents is Hep B pos.

I didn't have her get the Hep B shot in the hospital because I wanted her to be able to have the combination shot, Pediarix, which she wouldn't been able to do if she had the Hep B in the hospital.

I am pretty sure my daughter got her first Hep shot at 2 months. I'd have to look it up though.

Yep! DD had her 1st shot in the hospital and her final at 2 months. She had no reaction to it at all.

Us too, my pediatrician told me not to have it done in the hospital. I don't think anything to be concerned over, I think he just wants have all the vaccines in the office, so he knows where they all come from.

My pediatrician was in the hospital every day (his wife had their 3rd daughter the day after Jeremy was born). He recommended getting it there so he could monitor the baby. I could have waited but I would rather have my pediatrician there to see if he gets a reaction. No problems reported!!

He got it at his first pediatrican appointment. He was a few days old. He didn't have a reaction either.

Jiavana got it in the hospital. When we went for her 2 mth checkup she got another one. The nurse said she still needed 2 more and the one in the hospital didn't count. .why did I torture her then? I was really mad.

My doc did it at the first visit, he was 4 days old. Every doc is different, my girlfriends baby didnt get it until 8 weeks. Not sure what the reasoning behind it is.
