No DD #1 was at home with my parents waiting for us. It would have been too crazy trying to have her at the hospital with us.

Yes, but by that time (DS was 3), we realized that we didn't really *need* to sit in the back seat with DC, so it wasn't an issue with #2.

Re: did you come home as a family?

No, DH's parents brought over DS after we were already home.

I quickly realized this worked out better because while my mom was with me at the hospital with #2, DH had been at home with DS, had a special big brother breakfast with him, then he dropped him off at the ILs house for a few hours.

DH then switched off with my mom, he and I got some quiet, quality time with the new baby at the hospital (while my mom was home cleaning up, setting up dinner, taking care of the dog, etc).

Once we got home with the new baby, the dog went nuts, ILs came over with older DS, the neighbors came over, cousins/aunts/uncles came over -- that first night was chaos and I'm thankful DH and I had some quiet time alone with the baby before everything went crazy.
