Did ANYONE'S baby start TALKING at 6 months?

I think the competitive momming has started.

My co-worker just came in to chat and asked some questions about DS.

Her: "How are you keeping him away from the dog?"

Me: "Well, he's in his jumperoo or swing."

Her: "Oh, he's not crawling yet? Sophia crawled all over the place at 6 months."

Two minutes later:

Her: "Which did he say first: mommy or daddy?"

Me: "Neither yet - he babbles a lot though."

Her: "Really? That's strange. Nicholas said mommy, daddy, doggie and hi and bye at six months."

She's totally full of cr@p, right?

I think maybe it's you.

DS will be 6 months next week and he's already talking. His favorite words:

babababababababa
thpbpbpbpbppt
wabadaba
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I think maybe your DS has a developmental problem.

Kidding. Tell the jerk you work with to buzz off.

She is most likely lying. Or just doesnt remember when her DC did things. I hate when people get competitive like that.

Kaitee could only babble and say Dada at that age. But Dada was also babble because she had no idea what she was saying.Chat Icon

I totally agree with this.

I was so paranoid because people were saying their kids had a large vocabulary at 8 months old. I never saw an 8 month old that spoke words - not saying it can't happen, just not my experience. Meanwhile, my 11 month old only babbles. I asked his day care teacher how many kids in his class talk and she said none of them (and my DS is the youngest). So either his whole class is just really behind schedule, or they are all normal!

BTW, my son didn't crawl until 7.5 months, and he is still not walking.

Alright dont hate me....

The twins were talking at 6 months...and they had like 5 words or so. Mama, Dada, Hat, Hi, & Light.

But I know for a fact that they were really really early talkers...

They werent crawling though until at least 8/9 months...Talking was the only thing that they did early..everything else was on the average to later spectrum.

She has a genius!!! My DD only said dada at 6 months That's it! oh and don't think that dada was directed at dada because everyone and everything was dada - oh and if it makes you feel better, nothing has changed 5 months later. Still only dada!!!

I think the proper response would have been, "But does your child pick their nose? Mine does." Or, "Gee, its going to be tough when they get to school. Have you considered karate lessons?"

At my daughter's first birthday I was pleased that she said "Moo." To expect anything at 6 months is just silly and is no indication of what skills they will have at 5 years old.

This is SO true...while the twins were talking this early...Now at 8 years old they are just typical students for their age...although their language skills does continue to be a bit advanced. Both have needed monitoring in both reading and math.

I don't hate you at all. I really wanted to know if it was possible or she was just being a jackass.

I still think she was being a jackass, but at least she may be a jackass who doesn't lie.

Wow! I'm shocked. They said the word & made the connection to what it meant or said the word?

That's great.

Re: Did ANYONE'S baby start TALKING at 6 months?

I can't stand people like this! They really make me nauseous. Pay no mind to that crazy woman - she's looking to get a reaction out of you. And chances are, she's exaggerating. DS said his first word, "Da-da", at 7 months. At 8 months, he started saying "Ma-ma" as well. At 9 and a half months, those are his 2 main words. As for crawling, DS just started crawling well at 9 months. Some babies skip crawling altogether and go straight to walking. So I wouldn't worry. Chat Icon

They were amazing..it was the craziest thing..especially at a year old when they were these tiny little things and they could really really talk...and talk and talk...

Full of crap.

I don't understand people like this. Is her kid like 12 now? Because I swear, some people must forget. Or just love to exaggerate.

Actually my mom did it for my younger sister and brother when they were that age. Just so they were introduced to the potty. They were potty trained fairly early.
