Converting a cake recipe to a cupcake recipe...

I want to make cupcakes for Emily's birthday on Friday night since we won't be having the big party yet --- so I won't do the big cake until her party.

Does anyone know if I can just take a cake recipe and make them in cupcakes? Does the oven temp or baking time change?

i think you could absolutely do it! On the back of most cake mix boxes it will give you the cooking temp/time whether you make a cake or cupcakes!

i just looked at a box that i had and you do cook the cupcakes for a shorter time..

the only thing that you have to adjust is the cooking time.

I use cake mix all the time, and as other people said, reduce the baking time. Use a toothpick to check when they are done.

I've done this a few times. You definately can do this. The oven time should be on the back of the cake box. Have fun!

Re: Converting a cake recipe to a cupcake recipe...

I was planning on making the batch from scratch using my cake recipe since it is so yummy and this way I can make it so that it is safe for my mom to eat (she has crohn's disease and is lactose intollerant and can't eat mixes) so I won't be using a mix.

So can anyone tell me what it says on the mix as far as cooking time/temps because it should be the same for a mix and homemade!
