Compensation for passengers of flt 1549

Here is what every passenger will receive.
Not only do I think it's fair but it was quick.

Passengers aboard US Airways flight 1549, which crash landed in the Hudson River, January 15, 2009 will receive compensation for lost items.

US Airways has sent every passenger a $5,000 check for their damaged or lost belongings. Passengers will also be reimbursed for their tickets.

The checks were sent with a letter from an airline executive.

I think that is more then fair especially considering a lot of the passengers where business people, so I am sure they lost their laptops..I would welcome that with open arms

I wonder if the passengers have any way of accessing their luggage... just thinking, even though everything is obviously water damaged, I've carried jewelry in my carry-on bag before and that type of stuff could be recovered..

I think its fair BUT.... they are now saying that this plane had engine problems last Tuesday and was grounded due to it. So unless they show everyone dead birds being pulled out of the plane, I think there will be a lot of checks NOT cashed, and a whole lot of lawsuits filed.

I doubt many lawyers would be willing to file a lawsuit on behalf of the passengers who weren't injured. I don't think they'd be able to recover anything more than the value of their lost luggage. There are no significant damages. IMO, the compensation was fair.

I personally don't think it's enough. To have your life flash before your eyes, to possibly develop PTSD or have fears of flying again after this....I am not sure I find $5000 enough. JMO

I was thinking the same thing. I heard the same thing about the plain having mechanical problems this morning on 1010 WINS.

I'm sure if that's really true then, yeah, there will be, if not some, a bunch of lawsuits.

They say that all of the belongings may be tied up with investigators for months.

wow, that's very generous! good for them for reacting so quickly so everyone can replace the important things that were lost.

i REALLY hope that none of the passengers feels the need to sue the airline for more Chat Icon

I agree if the malfunction was due to the birds.

I don't agree if there was another malfunction that was disregarded, not taken care of or overlooked somehow.

If the rule out that this happened just bc of the birds and only the birds then I think it is more then completely acceptable compensation. People should be happy to be alive and happy they had a pilot that knew what he was doing.

I am assuming that if the decide to take the compensation, they will have to sign a form not to sue???

Are you kidding ??
Would you rather be dead?

I'd take the $5k and be grateful to that pilot for the rest of my life !!! - You take a risk every time you step on a plane, on a bus, on a train, into a car - accidents happen .........If it's blatant negligence, that's one thing - but an ACCIDENT where a pilot basically saved the lives of every single person on that flight?? - Come on !!! Re: Compensation for passengers of flt 1549

of course I would be happy to be alive- that is not what the $5K is for

the $5K is to replace my stuff- and that wouldn't cut it for what I travel with-

I would be almost out of money by the time I replaced my duffle bag, my purse, and my laptop- not to mention the hassle of having to replace my entire wallet - that could translate into hours in line and on the phone

sorry- I just don't think it's alot of money- and it seems like they know something by offering this so quickly

I would like to know what the people on the plane think of it- it really only matters if they are happy

Given the alternative ending to this, I would think you would not look a gift horse in the mouth.

AND maybe realize that life is not about your possessions.
