Chronic/Severe Sinus infections

This is the third major infection I've gotten in the past 8 months. In fact the infection I got in May turned into pneumonia.

I started feeling sick Saturday night, on Sunday morning I woke up with this gross feeling in the back of my throat (like a buildup - sorry if TMI) and I took 2 zithromax right away and I've been taking it ever since and I still feel like complete crap. I'm starting to cough and my sinuses feel like they're burning.

has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can be done?

Or am I just an idiot for not taking better care of my allergies?

Re: Chronic/Severe Sinus infections

Funny that u post this..i was talking with one of my co-workers this morning about Sinus Infections b/c my mother has a very bad one for like a month now...anyway he was telling me a friend of his was always getting sick constantly, colds, sinus etc. ..the guys girlfriend looked up on CheckMD? and found if u Gargle with a small amount of peroxide everyday (this guy does it while he showers every morning..not sure if thats part of it or just his routine) it clears out all the bacteria the guy hasn't been sick in months.....so maybe its worth looking up..i haven't had a chance to investigate it yet, but maybe it will help Chat Icon

Re: Chronic/Severe Sinus infections

You're not alone. I get bad sinus infections every winter. It starts as a cold, then wham! I have a sinus infection. I, too, have allergies and asthma, and I take a lot of medicine for that as it is. I hate taking antibiotics on top of that.

I'm tired of getting infections and I'm tired of being on antibiotics. I'm going to talk to an ENT specialist next week about having surgery to correct the problem. It's an extreme measure, but one I'm starting to seriously consider.

I get chronic sinus infections - my sinus infections tend to last for months at a time

the last time i had one the doc put me on predisone for a week, and levaquin and another drug for a month - that is the only thing that seemed to work for me - zpacks do nothing for me

i have seen ents about it but surgery seems like a big step to me but i did learn i have a deviated semptom and other problems - most docs like to do cat scans -

I have this. I know it helps me to leave my heat below 69 degrees, when you get stuffed up take a decongestant (like Robatussin) NOT a cough suppressant, and to use saline spray. These things don't totally prevent infections, but they do help.

I get sinus infections all the time...as well as ear infections too. I was just on predisone, augmentum and a decongestant to get rid of my sinus infection that I had for over a month and would not go away....I felt better for a few weeks, but now when I swallow I can feel the fluid in my ears again....last time I went to the ENT he told me that I had a deviated septum and should consider the sinus surgery...however I wasn't keen on having my nose packed for a week...now they don't pack it anymore, but I'm still not sure about the surgery b/c its not permanent. So I'm trying to decide if going for this surgery will be worth only a few years of relief.

Re: Chronic/Severe Sinus infections

the surgery only gives a few years of elief?

Really it's my fault. I have SO much asthma and alergy medication and I am really not religious with it and I should be.

but right now my sinuses are burning and I am missing a show! so miserable!

Yes - my DH has had the surgery twice - and I think he is going to have to have it again soon.

We both get severe sinus problems. Sounds like you need to be put on a steriod - that is the only thing that even remotely helps me.

I have tried the steroid sprays to no avail. The most it has ever done is make me spend my money and maybe give me a nose bleed.

I one time had to be on zithromax 6 times in 1 year, which isn't good for you. I have gone to ENT's, doctors, etc and never got an answer. I usually take Tylenol Sinus, try to get as much fresh or moist air as possible, showers help as do ice packs (more of a soother). I really believe that something is up w/ my nasal cavity and things don't drain properly. Usually if it drains at all I get a post-nasal drip, which may contribute to the numerous colds I have been complaining about. You need to find out why you are having the infection and make sure it is an infection. Many of the sinus headaches we self-diagnose turn out to be migraine headaches. Sounds like yours is sinus, but I would definitely see a doctor.
