I dont know...children at a baby shower never bothered me....

THERE IS NOT ALWAYS DAD AND GRANDMA, as someone previously stated...

I agree. I had kids at my shower and loved seeing babies there

And I have a baby shower to attend in March and I do not ahve a sitter available - DH works on weekends, my mom is sitting for DS the weekend before for something and is going away and MIL is away - I may have to skip it

But it's obviously your preference - it's your shower!

Re: Children at Baby Shower

We had a similar experience with both my shower and wedding. We asked for adults only and the same person brought their baby to both.

I didn't really notice it since it was just one, though. It was more the principle that ****** me off.

Don't let it ruin your special shower Chat Icon

I dont know...children at a baby shower never bothered me....

There were a handful of kids at my shower...honestly I didnt even realize they were there....

My son went to 2 showers with me; my SIL's and a close friends... the only person it was a hassle for was me, but I had no other alternative...

THERE IS NOT ALWAYS DAD AND GRANDMA, as someone previously stated...

I think the only time this would bug me, if it was a child old enough to eat and I would have to pay for the extra plate...

Same here, I love having kids at showers. I've always felt a baby shower is fine, that is what having a baby is all about - having family around and I welcome having them around.

But this is YOUR shower, if you want adult only - make that known

I completely agree!!

Re: Children at Baby Shower

I could be wrong but it doesn't seem like the issue here is should there be children at a shower - but the fact that the OP or the host didn't want children at the shower. So it doesn't matter whether we agree with that or not. I still think that if a child is not invited it is very forward to just bring your child or try to get them invited. In general it is nice to see kids at a shower (but sometimes parents don't watch their children and they run wild so I totally understand why someone wouldn't want children at their shower). While I would love to bring DD to a shower - I would never want to bring her somewhere where she was not wanted. If I didn't have a sitter I would just say no I don't see that as being such a big deal? I'm sure the person throwing it would understand if you don't have alternative care that you might not be able to attend.

I just had my shower this past sunday and we had some children there- it was great.

As long as the mom doesnt mind, it is fine with me!

Re: Children at Baby Shower

we didn't ask for an adult only shower, but 3 of my guests has kids so they asked if they can bring their DC, so I had 3 children there all under 3. It did not bother me, until they end up taking all my balloons home Chat Icon
2 of the 3 kids were very rowdy and their parents didn't do anything to calm them, but all in all a great shower and everyone had fun.

it's your shower, do it the way you want Chat Icon

IMO there is a difference between a BABY that's going to be held and passed around and oohed and aahed over, and a 3 year old who's going have to be entertained ........
i wouldn't mind the baby, but please leave the crawling, walking, running kids @ home !! -
it's not a kid's birthday party, it's not a BBQ, it's a Baby Shower -

I TOtally agree with uu! You and i are on the same page! Babies are adorable its the sticky fingered crusty lolipop face toddlers who if are not watched can get out of control!! also I blame the mothers who dont watch their children!

Well, if you really don't want her to come, tell her not to bring her child. If it is important for her to be there, then suck it up and deal with it.

I agree with the poster that said there isn't always a Grandma or Dad around to babysit. What if it is a family party and Grandma is attending as well?

I always thought that kids/babies were the norm at baby showers?Chat Icon You are celebrating a baby, other babies do that too.....

I don't think you are wrong. I would just have the host explain that it is an adults only event.

You may have not ever had an event ruined and disrupted ! For example the grandma to be is trying to make a speech to her daughter but cant not because kids are running wild and interupting her! I love all children and its not their fault they are just being kids, thats why some people feel like adults only is better!

Re: Children at Baby Shower

I think this is more about children who want to run and play and really distract the other guests.. I know I do not want kids at my baby shower.. And I dont feel guilty one bit about it.. I especially get the most irritated with the Mothers who think thats ok.. Its just not.. IMO.. Candice I AGREE 100%.. you are just being honest.. And its up to the person who is having the shower.. So if you dont want the kids there you should be respected..

i think it depends on the child... i would have been fine with my niece being at my bridal shower at 2 years old- but my sis decided not to bring her....

if the child behaves ok- then i dont see any problem with it
