Childcare question

My DD goes to a babysitter in the neighborhood two days a week. This babysitter called today to tell me her schedule no longer allows her to watch DD. I'm freaking out! I knew this woman would keep her safe and take care of her and I'm sick to my stomach because I have no other resources besides Craigs list to find other local moms that provide in home daycare. I can't get past the thought that I don't know these people for anything and sure I can interview them, visit their homes and do background checks, but that doesn't check out every aspect of their life.

Can someone please tell me positive experiences they've had with in home daycares so I don't have a nervous breakdown!Chat Icon

Re: Childcare question

I cant give references for ppl only because I dont live around there.

BUT DD was at my best friends house...well her DH got laid off and she had to go back to work, I panicked thinking the exact same things you wrote, I just didnt think I would ever find someone else.

I looked and looked and FINALLY found someone and let me tell you she is just AMAZING! It is actually working out better then before, my DD dosent want to leave at the end of the day.

So it will work out, just breath and take it slow, ask questions if you dont feel comfortable then move on to someone else! you will find someone!

Re: Childcare question

How about calling your local school district and see if they can recommend someone. Sometimes there are in home parents in the district that do it and it's all word of mouth and you can find out that way.

It's tough...Ive been there...I think that's why Im so quick to offer to babysit. I know how hard it is sometimes to find someone.

I would start asking people that you know...you'd be surprised...you just might find someone. Or perhaps the women who has been watching DD can recommend someone.

I have an asesome in-home family childcare provider, but unfortunately she is booked until June 2010. If you live near Merrick I may be able to get you some recommendations. Good luck.

OK so I saw you don't live around here. I suggest going to a local preschool and asking them to give a reference. A lot of mom's of preschoolers know babysitters and providers.

That is exactly why I am torn becuase I know good, honest, caring people can be found on Craigs list (like yourself Chat Icon ), but there are also not so good people in the world.

I hate hate this. My stomach is twisted in knots. I have a wonderful daycare that I can take her to, but it will cost me $140 a WEEK for only 2 days. Thats $560 a month that doesn't exist right now.

I would search this site and make phone calls to the places close to you. I found my daycare by doing this in LI and she does not advertise (she goes by word of mouth). At least you can find licensed places near you that you may not know exist and have more options.

I feel for you! Good luck and things will work out just trust yourself =).
