Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...

That ISN'T a Dyson. I don't know anyone who is happy with their Dyson...so I don't see the attraction! We have most of the same brands in the UK...so recommend away

So I want a canister vac that is very good for pet hair, I have 2 hairy pets, and a baby, and a hairy husband and I myself am hairy.

I am thinking about a Miele...anyone have one???

We have a Miele. It's our upstairs vac.

DH bought it years ago. It's great because it can lay very low to the ground and really clean under the beds/furtniture well.

I'm not sure of the model, it's blue, on the small side and pretty lightweight. It's actually a lot lighter than my Kenmore upright that we use downstairs.

Hmmm, I know you said NOT a Dyson. But you also said you don't know anyone who's happy with theirs. I'm here to change that. I love my Dyson. It absolutely rocks!

Mr. Blue loves it too!! Chat Icon

I LOVE my purple animal DYSON.....but to each his own. We had a eureka and a hoover before the Dyson. Both worked well.

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...

we have a hoover, its ok. I personally find Dysons way too overpriced and a trend. We'll see in 10 years if they are still as popular as the classic brands...

I'm surprised at how powerful our Hoover
(upright) is. DH bought it befre we were dating, and he just got one he could afford, he didn't research it or anything.

It's so powerful it's almost dangerous! Chat Icon

we've had ours for almost 2 years and it hasn't lost suction yet. that thing not only cleans like you wouldn't believe, but it cleans the air too. and with DH's allergies, it's a Godsend! my former vacuum (a Phantom) was awesome, for the first few months anyway. and it was no bargain at almost $200! it was junk after only 1 year. IMO, so far... the Dyson was WELL worth it. and LNT allowed me to use the 20% coupon, so I paid $320 for it, not $400.

We have a Kenmore. I think it's excellent. I've had Kenmores before. Can you get them there?

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...

We have an Dirt Devil upright, but here is some information from Consumer Reports regarding canister vacuums:

Best canisters for most tasks:

• Kenmore (Sears) Progressive 25614 , $350
• Kenmore (Sears) Progressive 25512 , $300, CR Best Buy
• Kenmore (Sears) Progressive 25513 , $300

Both Kenmores are best on bare floors, tops for emissions, and fine on carpets, but the Kenmore (Sears) Progressive 25512 is easier to use. If you have mostly carpeting, consider the Electrolux Oxygen3 Ultra EL7020A, which outperformed the Kenmores on carpets, but is noisier and more expensive.

Hoover canisters have been among the more repair-prone vacs.

Interestingly, in the Upright category, Consumer Reports puts the Dyson in 6th place, and it didn't perform anywhere near what the price would suggest. It's not a bad vacuum, but you can get two better vacuums for the same price as one Dyson.

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...

Im buying a new vacuum tomorrow and after researching it, Ive decided on a Kenmore Progressive. There are different models but Ive noticed the price differences are usually about hose and/or cord length. I like a canister because it can easily go under beds.

I had an Electrolux that I inherited from my MIL that was awesome, it was really expensive. One day it up and died and was going to be over $300 to fix. Chat Icon

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...

I've had many different vacuums over the years, but, the best one, hands down, was an Electrolux. That vacuum lasted for 10 years, never required any maintenance and I used it every day. I've always had multiple dogs that seemed to shed constantly. If I could afford it, I would have another one. Everything else pales in comparison.

Currently we have an electrolux canister now which we have had for about 8 years, now with the baby I am finding that I vacuum 2/3 times a day in our lounge, so I want something with a rug beater to get up all the crap...

I posted this thread just before Noah emptied a bag of crushed rice cakes into my slippers! I think I might stick with a Miele TT Dog and Cat

Re: Can you recommend a vacuum cleaner...

I bought an infinity shark - havent used it yet.

goodhousekeeping rated vacuums last year - they said dyson's were overrated - they are great vacuums, but you can find the same quality for cheaper...

I have this same vacum, the first one we bought broke right away, so we exchanged it for another one.
It has totally lost suction, and doesnt really pick up alot. I barely use it too.
