Can you get dental insurance on your own, not through your employer?
i currently have dental through my employer for myself, my husband and our kids. a job opportunity has presented itself to me but they do not offer dental insurance which i would like to have.
can you get dental insurance on your own? if so, could you share your experience with it? what company, rough costs, is it good coverage?

In NY state, private dental insurance is not available. However, there are discounted plans to help lower the costs of dental visits, and procedures. Post this post on the Health forum page.

check out www.easterndentalplan.com I pass their sign every morning. I think you can get insurance thru them. Good luck!

This exactly! I was looking for dental insurance on my own and found this out. And then wanted dental insurance through our business and it was INSANE! So we just got EDP and it has saved us so much money over the years. Check it out - it's SO worth it

I had EDP when I needed my wisdom teeth out and it saved me so much money! Highly recommend!!

My dh is self employed so we have no dental. We currently have a plan through healthplex. They offer individual and family dental insurance. Another one that does is delta dental.

I've had EDP in the past and the savings was really big.
FWIW, even with dental, a lot of the big stuff still costs a pretty penny out of pocket.
I have been putting off getting a couple wisdom teeth pulled because I know the co-pay is going to be around $500 or so.

Can you get dental insurance on your own, not through your employer?
My dentist carries their own insurance plan. I don't know the cost, but I think it's like $199 for my family per year. DS need an exam, flouride treatment, cleaning and full set of x-rays. It cost us $85. They said the standard price w/out the plan was around $250.
