Can you get called to jury duty on Good Friday?
This is my week. I've been calling every night and as of last night they were in the mid-600s. First day 1-450 were called, 2nd 450-550, 3rd, 550-650 or something like that.
I'm in the mid-900s. I'm hosting a playdate Friday - I can't make jury duty!!
Also, I don't have childcare for the kids. If I do get called, can I show up with a 2-yr old and 5-month old? How does that work?

If the courts are open on Friday, they could call you. Trying to remember - don't they have some option on the summons where you can ask for a deferral for childcare purposes? I don't remember exactly what the deal is, but I think if you have an infant (I think your 5 month old would count), there's some affidavit you can sign to get out of it. Hopefully it's not too late to do that since it's this week already.

Agree with the PP. You just have to send in a portion of the jury notice w/ a birth certificate and you are set for like 3 years I believe.
I had a jury duty notice waiting for me when I got home from delivery DS.

They're open tomorrow! My MIL works at the civil court in Queens.
I'd try postponing it, but you can't just not go because a playdate if you get called.

anyone can get a deferral but you cannot get excused because of not having childcare. I would call and defer it.
As far as being called on good friday if the courts are open you can get called.

I'm pretty sure the Courts are open, but you won't get called. In the seven years I worked as a paralegal, we either had off or got let out early on Good Friday.

Holy Thursday is not a holy day of obligation. (FTR, neither is Good Friday.)
OP, you can get a child care exemption, I believe. You may have to go there in person with a birth certificate. Call to get more information, though.
ETA - oops, I think the person I quoted was just saying tomorrow isn't Good Friday.  Sorry.

Of course I know I can't get out of it b/c I have a playdate 
I'm just trying to gauge if it could happen so I can warn mommies that I might have to cancel.
Kate - I might have to cancel
But, I don't have childcare on Friday - so Ryan & Colin might be serving with me

Oh I know - I was trying to quote whoever said that.
Anyway, I called and the lady told me to just to keep calling but she doubts they'll call anyone on Friday and if they do, I can postpone. So, Friday's still on
