BTDT Moms with newborns
Do I need a bouncer and a swing? Should I register for both or just one.
Any brand/style in particular?

I would register for both. I used both all the time.
I had the Baby Einstein Swing and a discontinued bouncer.

I got both the Papasan swing & bouncer. DS hated the swing so I returned it. So many moms I know swear by the swing though, so I think it is really a personal choice.

I'm certainly not a BTDT mom, but I do have a newborn ...
Anyway - I say register for both. They have different uses and it's nice to be able to offer some 'variety'. I have the Rainforest bouncer and the Newborn-to-Toddler and as of now (DD is 12 days old) I like the Newborn-to-Toddler better. I just feel like it gives more support and I like the different height settings it has.

My pediatrician told me NOT to use the swing before 2 months, so she uses the bouncy seat only right now. I do have both tho.

We have both. In our case, bouncer was a must-have. Swing was a nice-to-have.
Bouncer is very handy when you need a place to put DC. We hardly ever used it with the toy bar. We used it as a baby seat and gave her toys to play with, or read to her in it, or watched Baby Einstein in it.
Swing was good for getting her to sleep on those rough days. We didn't want to rely on it all the time. We didn't even buy it until she was 8 weeks and we didn't use it everyday.
We have FP Rainforest for both. She still fits into them at 6.5 months. And I like that the swing had a plug-in.

Have a swing, it gets limited use really RIGHT now. DD loved hers, time will tell for DS. If nothing else, it will make for a good high chair in the beginning of solid feedings when he can't quite sit up to eat.
As for a bouncer... I had a thread about them last week...I'm not a real fan. The one pictured above I believe I may spend the $$$ on and get for my MIL, who despite my explicitly saying NOT to put my son in the one she has, put him in the one she has! I told her that I didn't trust it and it looks too flimsy. I wanted to strangle her when she told me he was in it anyway!!!

I have a graco swing, one of the standard ones (not a papasan style or anything). It does have a "mobile" but that wasn't a feature I cared about having.

Both! And they were great.
We had the fisher price swing and the fisher price acquarium bouncer.
These were a godsend!

I would register for both. DS prefers the bouncer but loves them both, and they are lifesavers when I need to get stuff done.

We have both (actually we have a swing, bouncy, newborn to toddler rocker, and the glider) - and we put him in all of them. Not for long amounts of time just yet but gradually getting longer.
