BTDT moms, when did you take your first family vacation with 2 kids?

Our friends just asked us to do the Hamptons in late June. DS#1 will be a little over 2 and DS#2 should be 3m old.

With DS#1, we didn't really take a family vacation until he was 8-9m. DS#1 had health problems and I returned to work right after he got better though.

When did you take your first vacation with 2 kids?
Where did you go? How'd it go?

First road trip was Hamptons weekend first summer after Colin was born so he was about 8 months, Ryan 27 months. That actually turned out to be a nightmare b/c Ryan wouldn't sleep at the house and we were up ALL night - nothing to do with having 2 kids


First plane trip to FL for Colin's 1st bday - Ryan 2.5+. That was a good bit of work, but enjoyable.

We went to Disney last August/September.

DS was about a week shy of 3.
DD was 9 months.

I will be honest with you. I would have preferred to wait. THe only reason we did it was because we were going to visit my grandparents in Florida, so DH said we may as well go to Disney.

It was more work for me having DD off her schedule.

In the end, it was great memories for us. But I would prefer to wait until they are a little older.

Went went to Disney when DD#1 was 2.5 and DD#2 was 5 months.

well I went from 1 to 3..but we took all 3 when the girls were 8 months old. We would have defintly gone sooner, just didnt have any plans to.

We went to my parents house in Las Vegas. DD#1 was almost 3 and DD# 2 was 4 months. It was a lot of fun. The same month we went to Syracuse for a weekend and in May the 4 of us are going to Disney. #1 will be 3.5 and #2 will be 13 months.

We went away for the weekend with my dad and step mother when DS was only 5 weeks old.

DD was 2.5 and a nightmare at times, but overall it was okay.

Our first road trip as a family of 4 was when DS was 2 months. We drove from NC to NY and visited family for a couple weeks.

We flew up again when DS was 6 months and again when DS was 7 months.

DS is over 1 year and DD is over 3 years and we are flying to California next week.

I don't really consider these vacations-we have not gone to Disney yet, or a cruise or anything like that.

We went to Montauk for a 4-day weekend when DS was 2.5 yrs and DD was 2 months.

It was not really relaxing at all for me.

DH and DS had a good time playing on the beach, but for me, DD was still eating every 3 hours, and I had to carry her in the bjorn all day bc it was very cold and windy on the beach. I just felt "on" all the time.

We also cosleep with DS and nights were no fun bc he was so wild from not napping all day that we had to go in and lay down with him once 8PM hit, so we could never go to a nice dinner or anything.

We also also slept in the same room and I was so nervous about DD waking DS up bc she was still waking up every 4-5 hrs.

And the amount of things we had to pack was insane. It just wasn't worth it for me.

When DS#2 was 9 months old, we went to Montauk for a week. We do it every year. This year with 3 should be interesting!

1st family trip was to disney this past december.

my boys were 8 months old! it was a blast!
we drove there, much easier!

We are in the process of planning our first vacation as a family of four -- I'm scared!

My folks live upstate and my sis lives in MA, so we've been taking both boys (ages 1 and almost 3yrs) on 4hr+ car rides since they were only weeks-old. No problems at all.

But we've been staying with family and we've been driving. My family's homes all are outfitted with baby gear, are kid-friendly and spacious -- if one of the boys needs to CIO -- it doesn't disturb anyone. If we're in the car and someone needs to be fed, changed, pee, etc --- it's not a problem to stop the truck and take care of them.

But a vacation -- a hotel?? A plane?? Scares the daylights out of me --

we went to San Francisco when #2 was 3 months old, and Aruba the following month. When #2 was 8 months old, we went to Europe for 2 months.

(they're just shy of 2yrs apart, and very well traveled)

We drove to Florida last year when the girls were 26 months and 10 months. It was interesting They were actually pretty good for the ride and they were much better about sleeping/napping then I had anticipated.

You should definitely go. Your little one will be at such an easy age to go away!

We will be visiting NY for two weeks this summer, but I don't consider that a vacation. As for a REAL vacation, we probably won't take one for a while...I don't think I'd keep my sanity for very long.

In my mind, vacation will always be about escape and relaxation...and if I have two kids who aren't sleeping, who are up at the crack of dawn, etc. etc., I'd MUCH rather save the money for when they are older!

We went away for a week in the Hamptons when #1 was 20 months and #2 was 11 weeks. #2 was a collicky mess so it wasn't the greatest, but given a chance to do it all over again I would without a doubt.

DD #2 isn't here yet, but we have a few days booked in Montauk the first week in August with DH's family. The baby will be about 4 months and DD #1 will be 3. We'll see how it goes!! I'm not too nervous about it though because it's a low key trip. We renting a house and we'll be surrounded by family so we'll have lots of help
