BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

Did you have them share a room, or separate rooms from the start? I would prefer to keep both DDs in the same room, but DH is worried that one might wake the other up.

We'll be keeping the new baby in our room for about 2 months then hopefully move her to a crib in DD's room.

Is this possible or is DH right?

ETA: They will be 17 months apart.

I hope someone answers! I have the same question. James is a little over 2, but we're hoping to have them share a room after a few months but we're not sure if it's going to work.

Re: BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

My girls are 14 months apart and shared the same room since my youngest was 3 months old.

In the beginning, my little one would wake up my older one if she cried and cried and cried..i guess she has her breaking point. So yes, they did wake each other up in the beginning, it took a month or so, and that disappeared.

Even now my girls are 2.5 and 15 months and they don't wake up each other, they actually won't go to sleep unless the other is in the room. They'll cry for each other, and they'll cry if they don't kiss each other goodnight.

They play together in the am, laugh, talk to each other, it's the cutest thing to hear in the monitor in morning.

I don't think i would be even able to put them in separate rooms now.

It's def doable.

i have no choice but to have my kids in one room--DS will be 22 months when new baby comes...i will keep new baby inmy room for 1st 3 months and then move him/her into the room with DS

DS is a very light sleeper but I have no choice

Re: BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

is there a reason that you want them in one room....do you have the option of having two rooms? if so, I would do seperate rooms, unless your reasoning is because one of the rooms is on a different floor or something...

We have a 3 bedroom townhouse, so it IS doable. That said, my parents are frequent visitors (I live OOS) and I would love to keep a guestroom for them.

Thanks for all the insight ladies..... please keep em coming!

Re: BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

there was no way I could have had them in the same room, especially when I had to do CIO!

But in general, the night wakings, early morning feedings etc, it just wouldn't have worked here...

Why not try it out then? If they end up waking each other up, you can always move the baby into the guest room!

I don't blame you....so go with it that you are going to have them share the room....then if it turns out to be awful, you can then move the baby to the other room, and shell out the money then!!! It's just good to know that you have options!

Re: BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

My girls just started sharing a room last week. They are 25 months old and 11 months old. Most nights my 11 month old still wakes up once a night. My 2 year old does wake up but she goes right back too sleep with out fuss. She is a terrible sleeper too so I was surprised. At 25 months old she still cries herself to sleepChat Icon I can't imagine them sharing a room from the beginning though. But its worth a shot to see how your older DC reacts.

I did just have to buy a crib tent though because my 2 year old thinks she needs to give her sister every toy in their room and she gives her pillows and blankets and she climbs into the crib with her. But that's another storyChat Icon

ETA: both girls seem to go to sleep so much easier now that they share a room! My oldest doesn't cry like she use to. I am loving them sharing (except nap time because they would rather play).

Re: BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

I am not a BTDT mom but I will be having #2 in April. We are planning to do separate bedrooms b/c DD is such a light sleeper. She wakes up if she hears the floor creak outside of her bedroom---the kid has sonic hearing! That being said we hope to have DD #1 out of the crib & into some new furniture by then and DC #2 will get the crib & all of the furniture that we originally bought together.

Everything she said. Mine are 2.4 and 13 months. They have been sharing rooms since since my youngest was 3 months. They sometimes wake eachother up but there are nights where they sleep through the night.
In the morning when they wake up, I also hear them talking to each other.
I definitely don't have any plans on putting them in seperate rooms. I like it just the way it is now and I am sure they like it too.

Re: BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

I had no choice my two youngest share a rm 22mos apart and are now 1.5 & 3. They've shared a rm from the beginning. My youngest is a great sleeper and still is however my 3yr old still wakes up every night 1x then goes back to bed, very rarely does he wake the baby.

Re: BTDT Moms to 2 under 2: sharing a room

my DC shared a room when DS was about 2 mths and DD was a year. It worked for us until we moved and they each got their own room.
