Bridesmaid Dress Help- PG related (added link to dress)

OK my friend is getting married December 5....I'm in her Bridal Party...she's arguing with me over the SIZE I should order (I should use that word loosely). Normally in BM dresses I ALWAYS order a size 8 (I'm normally a 6 in everyday clothes) & in like the 12 weddings I've been in 8 has always been great. So I am giving birth November 8...could be the 13th (depending on my next sono)..so I'm still

A) clearly going to have a belly still B) my boobs could be HUGE. I haven't a clue.

So I told her to be on the safe side, I'm going to order a 12 b/c I'd rather have it bigger and I can take it in then to small. She's like "that's like 8 sizes bigger then you would wear"...I was like well no, it's only 2 sizes up b/c they run 6,8,10,12 etc..etc.. so this convo. still continued on...

but WWYD??? I think a 12 would be fine, especially not having a CLUE as to what size I'm going to be. Right? or am I crazy?

THIS IS THE DRESS - it won't let me grab picture

I would order the 12 to be safe. It is easy to take a dress in, if the dress is too small you'll be stuck!

I have to add...I love the dress!

i think you'll be fine ordering a 12. My sister was pregnant when i picked out my BM dresses and they told her to order 2 sizes just in case, its always easier to take away fabric, then try and add some.

My sister had my neice on Feb 13, my wedding was March 29, and trust me she was so happy she order 2 sizes bigger since she was still some what sore from her c -section

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Help- PG related

i agree with you - but ONLY if it is a style dress that can easily be taken in.

if it has a lot of "extras" like beading, ruching, seams, etc., and you lose a lot more weight than you thought you would it might make the dress look weird if taken in too much.

ask the bridal shop what they recommend...but i agree - a size 12 should be okay, as long as it won't LOOK weird once altered (as a pp mentioned - details, etc. maybe lost)...

I would definitely get a 12. Better to have more material to work with than not having enough--->cause then you're pretty much screwed.

I would too. I am actually having the opposite problem! I am in my 8th month and have to order a dress soon for a wedding I am in this winter. I am due in June so I want to order a 12 as well because that I what I have worn always. I am carrying really small and have gained about 13 lbs so far. Bridezilla said I should order a size 20 because I may not lose the baby weight! UGH!

If you normally wear a 12 in BM dresses, I'd probably order a 14 only b/c your body may change a bit after giving birth. I'm back down to my pre-pregnancy weight, but things definitely fit differently. If you've only gained 13 lbs, I definitely wouldn't order a 20. That's ridiculous.

Without a doubt order the 12. You're body is not going to go back to normal for quite some time. I was down right away with my son and then went back up a few days later. Especially if you're having a c-section!

I agree that you should order the 12. I'm not understanding what the bride's issue with this is. you're the one who will be wearing the dress and paying for alterations!

I was not pregnant when I was a BM in my brother's wedding, but I had to order a very large size in order to make sure it fit my boobs. I was VERY glad I did. It had to be taken in alot but once the alterations were done, it fit like a glove and I was comfortable the whole day.

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Help- PG related (added link to dress)

DRess shops can work wonders taking in a dress, but there's ot much they can do to make it bigger. I would err on the side of caution and order the 12. I just ordered a BM dress a size too big because I was hoping to be pregnant by then. Looks like they'll have their work cut out for them. Chat Icon
