Brazilian Hair Straightening... RAVE

I didn't do it personally.. I get the Japanese done, but a friend of mine did it on Saturday and she's INLOVE!!!

She has pretty thin hair, and I wouldn't say it's CURLY, but it's def wavy and has some frizz to it. Anyway, she always talks about how she loves my hair and how it's so soft, shiney and straight - she's seen it when I'm ready for a touch up and it's a mess. She didn't want to do the Japanese because she was concerned her hair would be to flat since it's not really curly, and it is so thin. I recommended she give the Brazilian Hair Straightening a try. My hair stylist just started doing it, and was telling me about it, so I thought, "this would be great for Beth".

Fast forward 2 weeks and she did it. Apparently there are 2 people in the US who specialize in it. Nadine, the woman who did Beth's hair.. travels around the tri-state area training hair stylists how to apply it. Beth went to Nadine's apartment in the city, it took about an hour and a half and $175 (her hair is long), and today she dried it pin straight with her fingers. It's so humid today, so she had her true test... normally her hair woudl have frizzed, but not now.... she's in heaven!

Anyway, I wanted to come on here and tell you girls about the product, because I know a lot of people are hesitant to do the Japanese either due to the chemicals, or the "flatness" factor. If you're interested, here is Nadine's website: Brazilian Hair Straightening

The product lasts 3-4 months, depending on how often you wash your hair... it leaves your hair evenly, so you don't have that annoying grow out period like you do with the Japanese!!

Re: Brazilian Hair Straightening... RAVE

my hair sylist has begun doing the brazilian straightening and she SWEARS its 1000x's better than JHS. your hair still has volume and movement. it is expensive and costly - but she doesnt offer JHS - she will only do this brazilian.

i havent gotten it done myself - she told me it is unnecessary for my hair type.

It's funny, because my stylist does both, and says the Brazilian won't take to my hair as well a the Japanese does.... It depends on the texture of your hair...

I think it really depends on the person who does your hair, because I leave after having the japanese and my hair has body and volume... they need to know what they are doing.... otherwise your hair can look limp and flat.

Ok, I decided to take the plunge and booked this with Nadine Ramos for next week. I am so excited, and nervous, but I am sick of blow drying my hair then flat ironing it. And in this summer heat it frizzes up too quickly!

Wish me luck, girls!

I agree my hair still has volume. It's just always straight!

I had mine donw back in march and it's still pin straight. So I don't know if I want to try Brazillian if it only lasts 3-4 months.

Marcos in Ozone Park. I think she paid $200. It depends on the length of your hair.

I just read an article about the chemicals they use and the side effects they can have on some people. Read a lot before trying. I have done Japanese for about 5 years now...I would personally wait until more people start doing and it the kinks (no put intended) are ironed out!
