i've never understood how people fake these things and think they won't get caught.

could be a few things... could be malingering... could be that she just had a vivid imagination and it's kind of fiction... only thing is that people get emotionally involved and/or hurt. However, unless these people have sent her money, I don't see what she did was so terribly wrong, you know? People need to take things on blogs etc at face value... someone telling a STORY. you know?
I used to be on livejournal and at the time there was a big deal about a chick faking a pregnancy and losing the baby in a miscarriage. there was a huge outraged and many people were hurt.
ETA: I am in no way saying I agree with what she did, I'm just saying there are some people that create an alternate personality over blogs and which is probably what this chick did.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. All the years I've been online, I've known quite a few fakes. I guess they are lonely people
