Re: Birthplan?

I remember the nurses asking me if I had any requests. All I said was that I wanted an epidural, No Hep B shot & No to circumcision (because our urologist was going to do it) This time, I am adding delay cord clamping for 2-3 minutes.

No. I just told them I wanted an epi from the second I walked in. To anyone who would listen. If a janitor had walked by I would have told him too.
And I pissed off a midwife who worked for the hospital. She was bringing me to my L&D room and I told her I wanted an epi as soon as I was allowed it. And she got real snippy with me. In my defense I thought she was a nurse. I saw her title on her ID later. Oh well.
I got my epi and it was heaven. Chat Icon

Childbirth is not something you can plan like a project at work. I am not sure who when and where these "birth plans" came from.
All our mothers gave birth to us with no "plan" and they did just fine.

This was pretty much me with my second. I went in for an induction and before I was in the gown I was asking the nurse when I was getting my epidural. I kept asking until I got it. I didn't want to be one of those people who asked too late and then the anesthesiologist was in a surgery and unavailable. The nurse probably thought I was crazy, but dude - I'm no hero! Give me the drugs!

Birthplan?

I had an idea of what I wanted, but DS wound up being sunny side up, which resulted in HORRIBLE back labor for me (which meant there was no question I was getting an epi after 20 hours of this), the cord was around his neck, and his heart rate decreased when he descended, so things got very scary VERY quickly. They wound up using the vacuum to get him out, and my OB told DH after the fact that they were getting the operating room ready, that's how dire it was.

Mind you, this was all in the last ten minutes of delivery.
